Algae in perlite shogun FC

So what do you do about algae growth in the perlite in the FC.  Spots are poppin up here and there and you can see in through the sides neat the bottom....

just get some new perlite did you have good drainage ?

I don't think a litlle bit of algae does much harm.  But you can either bake your perlite or bleach it before the next time you use it.

good drainage. drilled the holes all around like in the RR tek..I poured straight peroxide over the spots but it is still hanging on.  Its in bathroom under a skylight so it gets sunlight...

What you don't want is direct sunlight.  You want indirect sunlight.  Put it near a north facing window or something (if you live in the northern hemisphere that is).

Thats from using miracle grow perlite which is enriched for plants. You really need to rinse the shit out of it to get as much of that plant crap of the perlite.

remove all the perlite, rinse it very well and boil it in a pot for 30 minutes.

Correct.  Don't use perlite with chemical fertilizer in it.

Ahhhh good thing I looked through this thread, I was about to use my perlite and realized it was enriched with miracle grow, time to go exchange this mofo.
