When people say pop I laugh. Sounds dorky and childish. Makes me think of soda like how it was in the 1800's, little boys all across the land yearning for the rare delicacy that only the rich could afford.
Haha same here....I've always thought the same
It seems like anytime that i leave the state (California) people call it pop....

I grew up calling it pop but mostly use the term soda now since I've lived in WA.
Both sound fine to me though.

I suppose I switch back and forth sometimes, but I always say pop-machine.
CannaCybin: yeah, that's why you guys don't count.
yeah...I'm kinda in the same boat myself here:
I was raised in Ohio, so I grew up saying 'pop' all the damn time...but then I moved out to Arizona when I was about 12 or so, and began saying 'soda' at that point (because, as mentioned earlier, it kinda is a west coast / east coast sorta thing)
and now that I'm back out in Ohio again, and am expected to switch back my colequialisms - I just can't bring myself to do it...because, quite frankly, I've equated that term to something I've long since matured out of
but you're also right as far as 'pop machine' allways being 'pop machine' (I'm almost certain that one is pretty much universal right there)
but to each their own I guess

Pop, that's what they call it in Chicago where I was born so that's what my family always said.
But I've been in Florida most of my life and I think I call it soda now. Weird how that works.

Its clearly pop.
The only people I have met that used the word soda were fags, therefore the obvious conclusion is that only fags use the word soda instead of pop.
The science behind my conclusion is pretty solid.

But that's so mundane sounding.
I bet Ben Stein calls it carbonated beverage too.

Pop - Michigan.
People down in Texas call everything coke. Someone asked me if I wanted a coke and I said yes. They brought out a sprite and I thought they were retarted. To each their own I guess.

I'd think the exact same thing if someone asked if I wanted a coke and then brought out a sprite.
"uh, this is a Sprite, not a Coke retard."

Here is a typical conversation in the south(I am from Texas)
#1 person - "Im going to the store, want sumthin?" #2 Person - "Get me a coke." #1 Person - "O K , what kinda coke you want?" #2 Person - "A Dr. Pepper. And some corn nuts and a pack of Mar-blow lights!"
Heard this too many times, everything that is a carbonated beverage with high fructose corn sweeteners and flavors is called a coke in the south.
And Dr. Pepper is a BIG seller in Oklahoma for some reason.

I don't think this is entirely accurate.
I'm in VA and most people here say soda, but people here that are from, say, Boston, say "pop".
And it makes me want to punch them in the face. I hate the term "pop". Its just always gotten under my skin for some reason.
