I have read quite a bit about dunking but have not really gotten a feel for the overall benefits. My friend is in the progress of his first grow and is not sure what to do about the dunking thing. Is is good for newbies or should he stick to the MMGG tek.

are there any contam dangers in dunking or any other possible problems with it? Also what is the best way to do it. In hippies tek he talks about putting the in jars filled with water. Would it be possible to just fill water in the jar of the 100% colonized cake to dunk or do you have to remove it?

there's a small, very small chance that it'll get contaminated, if your worried, instead of using just regular water, use 10 parts water and 1 part 3% hydrogen peroxide solution. You can dunk it anyway you like, as long as the cake is submersed in water. Don't dunk it for more than 24 hours in a row.

would it work though to just fill the jar with water before even removing the cake and then birth it having accomplished both steps or will there not be enough room in the jar? What do most of you do?

What jar are you talking? Your BRF cake jar? It won't work inside a regular canning jar, not enough room. It should be surrounded by water and completely submersed.

yeah the brf jar. Okay cool thanks. I will find something else to put them so they can be completely submerged. They won't fall apart I'm guessing because the mycelium. I don't know because I've never actually birthed a cake and just curious as to what happens. i.e. consistancy. Are there any other extra precautions I should take? From what I've read it seems to make a big differnce. Does anyone have friends that have had experience with dunking as opposed to not dunking?

no, just make sure you use the hydrogen peroxide just to be safe, and you can also stick it in the fridge while it's dunking to help it pin when you birth it.

I put my cake(s) into a quart pitcher, weight them down, and then fill the pitcher with tap water. In 12 hours they are good to go.
