Water damage or algae? Man im nervous!
    #1032592 - 11/07/02 03:14 PM (15 years, 1 month ago)

I had the cake sit on the aluminum foil so it wasnt touching the perlite directly. well when I went to fan the rubbermaid container, I lifted the cake with plastic gloves because I had the feeling something might be up at the bottom. I see discoloration which could be algae or water damage since its been sitting in a few drops of water also the mycellum was thin on the bottom since no room to grow! Should I ignore the algae or cut off the bottom potion? should my cake be sitting in the lid of a jar filled with dry verm or dry perlite?

olive brown, very dull green which leds me to doubt its green mold. water damage tends to be this color and its only at the bottom of cake. should I cut that part off

I say give it a smell. This is what my cake looks like, and it's not contaminated and it's still flushing.

you have bruising and also black spots on the top. also your cake is sitting directly on the perlite, wont it get waterlogged?

haven't had a problem yet. I hope it's sucking up water from the perlite. I added some hydrogen peroxide to the perlite to stave off the contams.

some people place cakes right on perlite. the pod tek places the cakes right on the geolite. some of my friend's cakes in his pod actually sat touching water directly. the fruits all came up from where the water was toughing. just for information.

What is the point of using dry perlite?

to prevent water damage from standing water or touching it directly. most people say dont let it touch directly, also wont you get fatass shrooms with too much water? guess ill be taking pics now

but my perlite is moist. the water level probably comes up to half the height of the perlite so it's not sitting in water. But if you can dunk cakes without a problem, how come they don't get water damaged?

the first pic is the bottom. should I cut it out whatever it happens to be and sit it on something other than aluminum foil? should I use dry verm for the bottom of cake too?

nope, its dull brown. its still sitting on the aluminum foil, but I threw away the old foil and using a new one. man do colonized cakes get contamed far more often than colonizing mycellum in pint jars?

Cakes get contaminated because of cultivators CONSTANTLY FUCKING with them. Leave the poor thing alone and it might actually fruit.
