This weekend, I tried Salvia Divinorum for the first time.
At first, the prospect of using this substance frightened me, I believe I had read too much into other people's experiences and into various other aspects of the drug, and I think I may have expected too much of it. But as I sat there in my living room with a sober friend, and my bong loaded with the 15x extract for the first time, my heart pounding, I knew there was no coming back as I inhaled the smoke. And then I was very pleasantly surprised.
What I'm going to do for each of the following reports, is describe the setting, followed by my experience.
Trip 1-
Setting: My first hit of Salvia 15x was taken in my own home, in my living room. Two close friends of mine were present, each of us high on weed already, and one friend had already been tripping on Salvia over the course of the day. The sky outside was darkening, there would have been a sunset if it wasn't raining. We were playing music through my surround sound system- Brian Eno, Ambient 1 : Music For Airports. The first time I inhaled, I had held my breath for around about 20-30 seconds and felt nothing, so I took another hit. On the second hit, I started to feel the effects: my eyes felt sleepy, and I watched, amazed as my living room started spinning round and round, like trippy water draining down a plughole. I became oblivious to my friends' presence. As the room continued to spin, I remember everything seemed red and golden in colour, and there were patterns everywhere, like ancient stonework in some elaborate temple (ancient temples and places were a reccurring theme in my trips of the weekend). As the trip continued, objects started breaking off of something and flying towards me, and straight past me. Eventually I noticed my sober friends face cutting through the haze, grounding me in reality. The next hour or so, I was still feeling the effects. Basically this is quite a heavy stoned feeling.
Trip 2-
Setting: This trip took place the next day, and was definetly the most memorable trip for me. Another friend of our's had come over to trip with us- so there was now four of us. The weather outside was very warm, and we had smoked weed not long before we took the Salvia. 3/4 of us took the Salvia at the same time, and we were listening to Buddhist Monks of Maitri Vihar, Meditation Bells.
I took my hit and sat down on the floor, on my left side, balancing on my left hand. After a few seconds, it felt like the fuzzy carpet was starting to swallow my hand, but it felt great! I enjoyed this effect for a short while then moved to sit somewhere else. At this point, I became fascinated by my friend, who was sitting on a couch, drinking from a glass of water after taking his hit. As I watched him, I imagined him as a statue, a temple to a god made by some pre-historic tribe in a far off jungle. And then time stopped. He literally became a statue, frozen. The music we were listening to got stuck- like a CD when it is damaged and one note or sequence of notes annoyingly repeats forever. This experience of time stopping was beautiful to me, I could have sat staring at my friend all day. Eventually, as with the last trip, I noticed my friends looking at me which brought me back to reality.
Trip 3-
Setting This trip took place further into the day of Trip 2. Our group had decided to experiment with tripping outside, as it was a beautiful day. We travelled out to the edge of the village where I live, to a beautiful location on the banks of a stream, surrounded by trees and rocks hewn into shape by the river over years gone by. Directly across from us was a waterfall, surrounded by rocks and huge boulders.
We all sat down on the pebbly beach next to the stream, and took our hits. At first I wasn't feeling much of an effect. But after a minute or two I noticed the river talking to me, chanting short sentences. I don't remember any of them, but I do remember that they seemed quite meaningless, and didn't make sense even in my trip. As I looked onto the surface of the water, it appeared very cartoonised, and very interestingly shaped, for example as the water travelled over rocks, it would curve fantastically around and over the rocks, I liked this. Another effect I noticed, was that the boulders around the waterfall now had faces, in fact I could look at almost any large rock or tree and see a face in it somewhere.
Overall, I'm very happy with my early experiences of Salvia Divinorum, and I plan to take it again in the future, hopefully a stronger extract. This weekend, I have tripped more than three times, but the three I have written about have been my most memorable trips. Another thing I would point out now, Salvia has taken me places in my mind this weekend that I feel I have learned from. It has put me in deep trance situations which have been beautiful and extremely relaxing. I feel as though the drug if treated with the correct amount of respect and taken in the correct setting can work wonders. Thank you if you have read all of this! Paul x
