Oysters and leaves
    #1031498 - 11/07/02 07:26 AM (14 years, 11 months ago)

I have a question. Is it possible to use leaves as a substrate for oysters ? I mean, leaves are dead organic matter made of cellulose. Could it work ?

They would grow. Maybe the yields won't be so high, otherwise it would be mentioned somewhere as a good substrate.

Well, I would like to find a good way to get rid of the leaves in my yard because there are too many of them

Try it. But supplement it with some bran and some calcium.

Use 'em to mulch your garden,or compost 'em.

Just don't put 'em in plastic bags and leave them for garbage pickup-I HATE that!!!

Do what I do: fill up plastic bags with leaves....and then burn the lot. Absolutely no waste apart from a bit of ash! ;-)

Anyways, gotta run and dig up my lawn so I can pour concrete all over it. And there's trees to be cut down too. Damn things block out all the light.

;-)

Don't forget:used motor oil makes a great,free weed killer.

(seriously tho' ,I live in the desert, and I'm all for people digging up their water-sucking lawns!)

I live on the shore of an extremely large fresh water lake. Therefore motor oil and the mercury from thermometers that I break, gets poured into said body of water. Naturally all effluent enters the same body of water untreated, so that it costs three times as much when we suck the water back out to make it safe to drink.
