MT BIKE HELP?

I'm trying to get a new mt bike this summer but I want a bike that aside from trail riding I could also use for trials (obviously a hardtail).
So I was wondering if anyone here does trial riding and if they have suggestions for good mt bikes to learn trials on. I don't have the money to get an Echo Mod or a Zoo trial bike or anything of that sort. Looking to spend about 600$ tops...
All help is appreciated

Pretty broad, your options are endless actually.
Buy a used park/freestyle/dirtjump/freeride hardtail or better yet, buy a frame and set it up from the ground up.
You will have to decide on wether you want 1 or 2 chainrings, and disk or vee breaks. Your also probably best off getting a steel bike vs. alumininum, because its stiffer.
Also, geared or not? - riding a bike with no shifters is beautiful, but obviously limits where you can go...
Run small rings with a bash guard for trials, or if its a steel frame you could have a plate guard welded on (like they have on modified trials frames.)
Wheels and breaks are likely the most important decisions. Strong wheels (light if possible, although that'll be pricey.)
I used to ride minor trials, and had a modified monty bike from the late 90's.
EDIT: i see you have a limit of $600, just look for a used dirt jumping bike, it should have everything you need - just make sure it has a front break!

Eastern makes really nice HT free ride bikes for like 500 brand new.
The freeride Traildigger is a fucking awesome bike for the money. Rode a friends on some Bmx trails a few weeks ago.
It was essentially this with a Bomber front end on it.

I can really only compare it to a Bmx bike on trails, but it was real cool.

I really only Ride bmx trails. The Dirt Jumper MT bike guys ride bmx trails too,and I see alot of the free riders at our trails too. It's all kind of the same thing, different bikes.

I'm assuming that's kinda where he's heading with it,as the kind of bike he's describing is what all those dudes ride. The more Downhill Guys almost always ride full suspension. hardtails for Jumping and getting your Pump to make it through the next set of doubles, and shit.

Wow that guy sure has some big air and nice form. I used to ride BMX bikes back in the early Eightes. Now I ride a lot of intermediate to advanced mountain biking trails. I have a Cannondale hardtail. Pretty basic but I like the way it rides and have had one for years now.I think I paid a bit too much tho..like 800 dollars. It is really light!!
