Found a nice many today, unmistakeable so I didn't bother posting pics. I know what they look like, but its always the smell that gives me the best confirmation. Happy hunting during this early season.

Bluefoot( P. caerulipes) season is in the fall. You probably found P. ovoideocystidiata

Oh god, here we go again. Around here they are bluefoots. Not False bluefoots or some other name. We call them bluefoots. Maybe we are rednecks or "dumb", whatever. We still call them bluefoots as we are not "mycologists".
Sorry, I've been drinking

I'm hoping to find some this weekend in jersey, after a full week of steady rain.

The name Bluefoot was givin to ovoids in ERROR, they had been misidentified as caerulipes by one of the members here.
If you want to perpetuate an error, be my guest, but i will continue to correct you.

Correct this.
Nah, just messin' with ya.
While you are technically correct, common names can apply to more than one species. This is the case through all of botany, e.g. Moonflower, and mycology, e.g. Pink Bottoms and Spongy Tops.

Yup. In the end common names don't mean a damn thing. I call Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata "ovoids" as a common/slang name. If someone in the North East calls something a Bluefoot, I just assume it's Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata since Psilocybe caerulipes seems to be the hardest god damn active mushroom to find. I'm beginning to think there is no such thing.

Kind of like the whole friscosa/cyanescens theory, that they're actually the same species.

Hey man! Nice to see you. I caught your thread but I didn't have anything substantive to add. Nice.
Yeah, I use the name Ovoids too. Cuts down on the confusion.
Many people were speculating they didn't exist until I found them last year. Even now, some think they are the same mushroom as Ovoids.

I call them bluefoots because they turn blue and I find them underfoot. Latin is a dead language

So I get out of my car at my spot and lo and behold, 6-7 massive capped bluefoots, right there next to me. That was over half of the ones I found today, about 7 gr total (only hit it up for about an hour). Anyone know if they loose potency dry?

Most mushrooms lose some potency when you dry them. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Nice finds man! Glad to see that other West Virginians are finding them. I totally feel you on the smell factor as ovoids seems to take many colors and shapes throughout their fruition. I usually always identify them first by sight, then smell them to reassure. Usually withing a couple minutes of picking they start to bruise right along the ends of the caps. I've been hunting off and on over the past few weeks with a little luck. My last hunt was this past Tuesday, and I found about 1/4 dry. This is pretty disapointing, seeing as how the past couple years have been a lot better. But it is early in the season, so I've still got high hopes. I was also happy to come across 3 large (about 8"-9") beefy morels. I prepared them by soaking in salt water, then a quick couple minutes in the oven at 150 F, took them out and stuffed them full of smoked gouda, dipped them in a milk/egg combo and dredged them in flour, and deep fried them! Delicioso!!!
