QUIK QUESTION....

So i have 1 spawn bag colonizing. and my dog ate apart the compost bag that i was going to put the spawn in( this is a kit that i got and it came w/ a 5lb bag of compost w/ a filter that i was suppose to mix the spanw w/ and re tie the top of bag and let fruit). How much coir do i need to mix w/ the 5lb bag of compost for the substrate??
Im going to check out my compst bag tonight. Maybe they already mixed it w/ coir. i mean all i was suppose to do was dump the spawn in the bag, shake it up and seal it off. Let it sit out and wait for the mushies to come. I think im going to buy some kitty litter boxes and dump them into those. Maybe this will work just fine. i just need to find a big rubbermaid fc that will hold the casing and some perlite in the bottom for the humidity....

Did your dog eat the compost LOL, if he didn't just pasteurize it. If you want to an coir to the mix the follow this tek and mix your pasteurized compost in.

No thankfully he didnt, just ripped the bag apart to piss me off. i think he eats enough of his own compost if ya know what i mean. Thanks for the help. Do you think perlite will work well enough w/ such a big amount of substrate?

I would look into a mono tub to spawn that into, it would be easier in the long run. CH

Im sorry i know this is a stupid question, but im not really that bright. this is what it says: I used the following recipe per bucket: 4.5 quarts water 1 brick coir 1 quart coffee 1 quart verm It came out to an avg 10 liters per bucket (almost 3 gallons)
so do i use all those ingredients and then mix it w/ compost or use the compost in the place of the verm and coffee?

I would make it just like the tek says, that what I do then add manure(H-Poo) and a small amount of gypsum to it. You will have way more substrate than you need for one spawn bag but it will last a long time as long as you repasteurize it. GL, CH

OK i understand. i guess i could just fill the spwan bag up 4 or 5 times w/ the substrate so i can get the 1:4subsrate ratio right...

Bulk substrates can be mixed in watever ratios you get them. you can use coir by its own, but it performs much better when suppliments with other ingredients.
The verm helps fluff out your substrate, though coir is pretty fluffy on its own, it also helps with moisture.
spent coffee grinds add nitrogen to the substrate, and also some food aswell
gypsum supplies calcium and sulpher which is important in fruitbody development.
Not sure what your compost is. but you can just use the compost you have but you have to pasturise it now that its been exposed to the elements.
I wouldnt add anything to your compost, it will change your spawn ratio. 1:3 is a good middleground, the more bulk you use the longer its going to take to colinise.

If this is one of your first grows I recommend using a 1:3 ratio or even less to get it going fast and less concern for contamination. No dont pasturise in the oven look up a tek, or follow the tek I gave you. CH

I think i might just throw some gypsum in the compost and nothing else just to be safe. since thats how it was suppose to be done. Im just gonna mix it all up and throw it in the bucket. After i put a small layer of dry verm ofcourse. I plan on buying some LC online and plan to start doing it from scratch. istead of spending 125 on another kit. so im def eighter going w/ the monotub. Or the buket tek.
