fruiting question w/ pics
    #10295887 - 05/06/09 09:05 AM (14 years, 10 months ago)

so i put 6 brf cakes in my pmp 4 days ago
its my understanding that it takes about a week to 2 weeks for the first flush to fruit
but 3 of the cakes already have some mushrooms growing, my question is whether i should pick the mushrooms already growing on the cakes now because the whole cake isnt fruiting it just seems to be about 3 or 4 and i dont see any other pins or anything, so what should i do in terms of harvesting and dunkin n rollin with these early fruiters?

Don't dunk them until after the first flush, the pins are too big already.  Just let them grow out until the viels break and then harvest.  Btw, I would not put those cakes directly on the geolite because they will wick up water and interfere with pinning.

really? i thought it was ok to put em right on top and the point of the geolite was to wick up moisture, i am having trouble keeping humidity up i am prety sure because the lid on my pmp isnt air tight but i dont wanna mess with it too much while they are in there, so should i just put em on a lid with sum verm? i dont have any left and i dont really wanna buy another bag to just use a tiny bit...

One of the major pinning triggers is moisture evaporation.  If the cake is constantly wicking up water it interferes with this process which is not what you want.  You want your cakes to have plenty of moisture to begin with, that is why we dunk.

It's not a major issue.  When I started growing I had never heard of dunking and rolling so I didn't do it.  All it might mean is slightly lower yields.  You can still replenish by dunking and rolling after this flush.

They're not at all stupid questions.  There are a lot of outdated teks and misinformation scattered throughout the internet and even experienced growers get confused sometimes.  It is always best to ask on this forum because a lot of the people on here are up to date with what is going on cultivation wise as opposed to static websites.

Not a major issue. It just rehydrate's the cakes, giving them plenty of moisture to pump into your shrooms to make them nice and big. you can dunk after you pick your first flush, and then every time your going to try for another flush (Up to four)

one last question,
do i have to pick all of the shrooms off the cake at the same time? cuz that one big one will probaly be ready long before the rest of the cake fruits

Nope not at all, best time is just before the viel brakes. You will know when after a while of picking them

Happy Harvesting
