identification
    #10293610 - 05/05/09 09:36 PM (14 years, 10 months ago)

Habitat:
Where does it grow? they grow in the woods. just in the grass and weeds. around trees both dead and on the ground and live standing trees. northern panhandle of west virginia.

Gills:
the gills are brown when dry. i think attached.

Stem:
about three inches maybe four. hollow.

Cap:
round. the biggest i have seen would be a little smaller than a can of soda. when i pick them, if it is wet, they are brown. if it is dry out they are whitish/grey  with a bluish dot right in the center.

Spore print color:
i want to say brown with a bluish purplish tint. im sorry i know that probably isnt the best!

Bruising:
they definitely bruise blue.

Other information:
i know they are very potent. i have been picking them for years. i have always been curious as to what specific kind they are. when i pick them the edge of the cap becomes wavy and blue.                  this is what they look like when they are dried....->->

that's definitely not psilocybe cubensis but it does seem to be an active psilocybe.

do you mean a ring on the stem right under the cap? if so, no there is no ring on the stem.

well do they have a ring around the stem? that is an important part of id'ing these.

sometimes the ring will disappear but there will be a collection of spores on the stem where it used to be...sorta...thats the simplest way I can think of how to describe it.

In your first pic the mushroom on the top of the other one in your hand looks like it has a ring or remnants of one dusted with spores.

Some info.

Ovoids are in section stuntzae so having a ring is normal for this active psilocybe, your in the right location for them as well.
