    #1029037 - 11/06/02 07:05 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

so i was walking to my local hardware store and picked up some lime for my peat casing......i get home and read, in one of my many documents on shroom growing, that i need hydrated lime and not dolomite lime....so curious to what i bought i look at the package and there in big letters DOLOMITE LIME. so my question to you, is there a way to salvage this error or should i take up gardening and find a use for it?

Dolomite lime has too much magnesium which can inhibit pinning.. I wouldn't use it.

You can use crushed oyster shells.  You could get this at your local hardware or feed store.  Also could use chalk, ground into powder then added to peat.  I think the crushed oyster shells work best.  They make a firmer foundation to support larger shroomies!   But both work just the same.

Peace  ignuF

I use crushed oyster shell and hydrated lime, but hydrated lime is very alkaline and it's very easy to use too much. Chalk is better.

thank you all for the words of wisdom....what ratio of oyster shell to peat moss should i use? i know these are simple, and redundant questions, but since this is my first grow i don't want it to mess up...and since the spore prints are going to the winner of the FSR grow contest i don't want to disapoint. thanks again
