Some NZ finds

Well since there seems to be about 3 or 4 'official' Aus & NZ season threads floating around, I couldn't be bothered trying to decide which was the true 'official' one (maybe the mods could sticky one?). I just decided to make a new post to share some pics. Things are happening here in the South Island of NZ. I've mainly been hunting for edibles & medicinals & cool looking shrooms to take photos of, but when I stumbled upon some subaeruginosa, I figured I better take some pics for you guys and gals at the shroomery.

Patch #2: (Things were a little dry)

Yeah I was diggin' those white margins. Not so common around these parts. Those shrooms were 'legit' in the sense that they were found in undisturbed bush (not native bush, but probably been planted for 100 years or so)....no wood chips to be seen anywhere near them.
Also the cute little ones from patch #4 were found in the 'Australia' section of some botanical gardens - so I considered them to also be the 'genuine article'. Note eucalypt leaves around them.

Gidday zee_werp, nice finds man, the ones in patch #3 look espescially good! By chance, do you know what kind of tree root the subs in patch 3 are growing on? My most reliable patch is in the bush and the mushrooms grow on the roots/foliage of this certain kind of tree, I'm trying to work out if there is a symbosis between subs and this tree.
I'm heading back to my patch on saturday to check how the pins I found today are going so I'll take some pics then.
Also, do you find these mushrooms far more potent/enjoyable then subs growing from mulch? It's always been the case for me.

Sorry I do not know the name of the tree. But I think what looks like a root in the photo was actually a fallen branch.
In the past I have noticed that shrooms which grow on wood chip (usually pinus radiata chip here in NZ) have more of a 'body load' than those which grow on more natural substrates i.e. in the bush...It is well known that fungi readily absorb chemicals from their substrates. Perhaps, because wood chip is chipped, it makes it easier for mycelium to grow on and therefore the mycelium colonises and fruits from the wood chip at an earlier stage than it would have from an intact branch or whatnot. In other words the woodchip, being more freshly 'fallen' wood, still has more tannins, etc. present which may contribute to the effects. This is probably just a completely stoned theory but hey who knows.

Nah, its just that it was in a real shaded part of the bush and so I had to use a flash which makes everything else look darker. It was really hard managing to hold the camera still enough for the non-flash first pic. Far out though, this mushroom photographing is getting addictive!!

For those interested in the Gymnopilus genus, I found some interesting un-ID'd bluing ones yesterday. Ran out of upload allowance here so made a thread over at SAB. Here's the link: http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=10160&st=0&gopid=89682entry89682 Any ID assistance would be great!
