What I find even more fascinated than looking at stars from Earth, is this photo taken by the Hubble Space Telescope:

Each one of those "blobs" of light are galaxies, billion of light-years away!!! The only stars in this photo are the points of light with the characteristic " + " cross-hair shape, which are only a couple (4?). And the wacky thing is that this photo was left to expose for several weeks in one spot focused on a point as small as holding a grain of sand at arms length! Pretty crazy to think there
are many many more galaxies in the rest of the night sky.

Its even more crazy to think that each of those thousands of galaxies in that one photo could have at least one Earth-like planet with intelligent life on it, each with its own advance form of technology and culture (social not mushroom).

Star Trek, here we come!

Edit: You're right hpi, "trillions" of light-years is not possible, but as far as we know it, the universe could be Infinite. It took me awhile to figure out your statement: "It goes up to like 14 billion light years away." You really didn't elaborate on why it can be only 14 billion light-years away. But after researching it, I found that current estimates by physicists and astronomers is that the Universe is about 13.5 - 14 billion years old from the Big Bang. This means, the farthest galaxy that can be observed from earth can be no more than 14 billion light-years away, since that's how long it takes light to travel since the Big Bang to Earth from such ridiculously vast distances.

As for my statement of Earth-like planets in other galaxies, that was just a hypothetical thought experiment. Of course there is no way to prove/disprove my statement, since we are so far away from the place being studied. On the basis of life beyond our planet in other galaxies, I see it this way: If life is possible on this *one* planet in this *one* galaxy, then that means life is possible. Thus, if there are billions of stars within the billions (or more) galaxies in the Universe with their own planet/planetary systems, then the probability of other life in other parts of the Universe grows exponentially.

Trillions of light years? That doesnt' exist. It goes up to like 14 billion light years away.

Who says that in each ot those thousands of galaxies there's an earth like planet with intelligent life on it? Culture?

There exists one lie that is the absolute worst. A lie that has successfully infiltrated many of the Western governments. This lie is Christianity, and it must be fought in every way, shape and form. Burn the churches and kill the priests. The abomination that is Christianity must be wiped from this Earth.
