Does the fruiting chamber which the cakes are in NEED a cover of some sort over them... i am gonna have cakes in a container with perlite in a compartment at the bottom of my entertainment center... it can only hold about 4 cakes so i was thinking i could maybe put some plastic lined all inside of it because i dont think anything with a cover could fit in it... would this work do you think?

The cover is needed to keep in the moisture to keep the humidity up, so you do need one.

I'm a bit confused about your setup. Do you mean you are putting the cakes in a container with perlite on the bottom, but no cover, and putting that into a small compartment in the entertainment center. If so you will have to use common sense to judge whether the compartment seals well enough to keep moisture in. It would basically have to have no visible openings or gaps around the edges of the compartment door.

listen to STS.
you will need a cover. If you try and make it humid inside the entertainment center you might do more harm than good. One you might ruin the entertainment center with high humidity. Two you might get contams.
At least cover the top of the container with plastic food wrap.

If you are worried about not having a cover then just make one. I have a 10 gallon aquarium, and made a lid for that using tin foil, tape, cardboard, and another layer of tinfoil

hmm... a cover. Indeed saran wrap would be by far the easiest way to go. I didnt really like using it cuz it doesnt always stick and i would have had to combine multiple sheet to cover the whole thing.. and then removing it and putting more on... eh. It became a pain. For a larger container, as a lid I would suggest getting ur ass to home depot give them demensions and have them cut some plexiglass for ya. I used weathering strips around the edge to really seal it off. But if its a smaller container ur working with... deff. just go with some wrap.
