I didn't get accepted into any universities.
    #10266353 - 04/30/09 11:16 PM (14 years, 11 months ago)

Uh, yeah.  I was really looking forward to going to a real college, but I guess I'm unacceptable. Should I even bother going to a community college?  Is it pretty easy to transfer into a university after a semester or two of community college?

if you really want to go to school, i'd highly recommend JC. i spent 3 years after high school at JC and then transferred to great university. great experience, best of both worlds, plus you save tons of $$$

It is easy to transfer. Make sure you get good grades, really put effort in, and you will be able to go to a good four year college in a year or even a semester.

Junior College is about as easy as HS so if you try this time you'll improve and easily transfer in.

colleges that are more difficult to get into right out of HS may be easier to transfer into as a Soph or Junior. Initial matriculators who transfer or flunk out need to be replaced at every school.

I know the feeling dude. I don't know what your options are where you are from (I'm assuming you are from the US), but the other guys here are saying community college(whatever that is).

Take it from me, don't give up. I dropped out of high school when I was in my final year and went into full time work, realised how much I hated it and decided to try and get into university. It took me two years at what we call TAFE here(they award diplomas, not degrees), I finished my final year of HS there (2007), and did the first year of an engineering diploma (2008). I got awesome grades and transferred into a science degree this year at one of the best universities here.

It is completely worth it in the long run, especially if what you want to do for a job requires a degree. From what I gather there is a lot of pressure on everyone to get a degree in the US, so maybe that is also adding the let down of not being accepted. I say just go for it and fuck what anyone else thinks, it will be one of the best things you ever do.

ur not unacceptable, u just need to not slack off so much.

i was in the same spot after high school.
now i'm just finishing up my second year of community college and got into my 1st pick school.

community college isn't bad - and yes, a semester or two at community college will almost certainly get you into a good college so long as you keep a 3.5 or above. (not hard)

As was mentioned, its actually a good money saving strategy, since you can transfer a lot of the credits if and when you go to a 4 year college.  You should look into which colleges in your area may have better relationships with the 4 year schools you're interested in, and you may be able to have all your credits transferred when you move on.  Plus, junior college women are um...more fun (assuming you're a guy or a lesbian).

Why does everyone make a big deal about going to college? There are many jobs out there that don't require a college degree that start out at above the pay of a lot of jobs that do.

Where I work now entry level is around 48,000 a year. I make 56,000 after a year. I also get crazy good bonuses and awesome benefits. My 401k is even matched up to 10% plus they fund it with an additional 4% no matter what I put in.

The reason I tell you this is to give you hope. I know plenty of people that have college degrees and make around 30,000 a year. You just have to find the right job.

I dont understand why anybody would want to avoid doing community college for half their degree.  It makes no difference where you take ENG 101 and the like...  Prestige from a university matters for a graduate degree, and to a lesser extent a bachelor degree but no employers give a fuck if you get an associates from a community college.  Its not like your degree will have an astreks saying you went to community college...

Doing overpriced classes so you have have the prestige of a named university for a year or two is an extravagance for the rich, not a necessity to getting a marketable degree.

I am an oil field lease operator.

Basically after they drill the hole and set equipment on a location I make sure that it produces oil and gas to maximum efficiency while meeting all environmental and safety standards.

Its a kick ass job. I get to drive around in my company truck all day and only see my boss for 15 minutes in the morning. Its not that way for everyone but I do my job so I don't need much supervision.
