Lipa Yai Casing Question
    #1025804 - 11/05/02 08:47 PM (21 years, 4 months ago)

My friends pet shark cased two BRF cakes in straight verm about nine days ago. The casings are in a terrarium with a flourescent on 12/12, perlite in the bottom, and a pump putting in fresh air. The shark fans several times daily and mists when there is no condensation on the walls. The temperature has been between 78-83 almost always except at night when a frozen coke bottle is put in the terrarium to try to lower the temp. Nothing has happened, but today the shark took the casings out to look at them up close and he noticed there were a bunch of tiny pins all around the edges about a half inch from the top. They are in white plastic rubbermaid trays that are used as utensil organizers. He thought they would be opaque enought to prevent side growth. What can be done?

You should read up on casings more. You are supposed to let the myc colonize for a few days still after casing before putting in the fruiting chamber.

My friends shark has probably spent 50 hours reading about casing and mycology and he did let it sit with plastic wrap for four days and patched the first mycelium. After it went into the terarium the mycelium was no longer visible. Thanks for the advice though.
