Being able to countenance criticism... Isn't that a somewhat missed virtue? I sometimes wonder if a modern America is too vacuous to even have a dialogue.
It will be a point in discussion of history, of course, to deny history, or it will be taking a position to relativize all points of view. But what does one stand for in deflection? The response can be practically anticipated.

I dunno, man. The history I've read indicates that there were a lot of outright slaughters, with broken treaties and promises to boot. And the US gov still hasn't given them back the money they owe them -- in the hundreds of millions. It all continues to this day, sadly.
No, we were quite proactive in ridding the continent of the Indians. Disease was the major factor, but we killed many thousands deliberately, and then forced the rest to live on reservations, with virtually no rights.

Yes, we gave them reservations so they can live in the old way, you know, as millionaires, with casinos, huge tobacco farms, and the highest rate of sexual assault out of any group in america.
But no in all serioiusness, the history with native americans is white washed in their favour, there were horrible attrocities on both sides, and they were not generally friendly the first time a tribe encountered white settlers.

Unless the Native Americans start getting treated like the Palestinians, they really Aren't being fucked by anymore besides themselves, in some ways they have it better than American born Europeans. If Europeans never colonized the Americas by 2015 their way of life would still be in danger or nonexistent, just like every other stone-age people, they will have become obsolete eventually. I don't deny that they were wronged but civilization isn't fair, the strong beat out the weak- it's not fair but it's a fact nonetheless.

What is a fact? You began by saying this didn't really happen. You are just taking positions to create some simplistic impression of things.

"There's a reason for this, there's a reason education sucks, and it's the same reason it will never ever ever be fixed. It's never going to get any better. Don't look for it. Be happy with what you've got... because the owners of this country don’t want that. I'm talking about the real owners now... the real owners. The big wealthy business interests that control things and make all the important decisions. Forget the politicians. The politicians are put there to give you the idea that you have freedom of choice. You don’t. You have no choice. You have owners. They own you. They own everything. They own all the important land. They own and control the corporations. They’ve long since bought and paid for the Senate, the Congress, the state houses, the city halls. They got the judges in their back pockets and they own all the big media companies, so they control just about all of the news and information you get to hear. They got you by the balls. They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying. Lobbying to get what they want. Well, we know what they want. They want more for themselves and less for everybody else, but I’ll tell you what they don’t want. They don’t want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don’t want well-informed, well-educated people capable of critical thinking. They’re not interested in that. That doesn’t help them. That’s against their interests. That’s right.
They don’t want people who are smart enough to sit around a kitchen table and think about how badly they’re getting fucked by a system that threw them overboard 30 fuckin’ years ago. They don’t want that. You know what they want? They want obedient workers. Obedient workers, people who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork. And just dumb enough to passively accept all these increasingly shittier jobs with the lower pay, the longer hours, the reduced benefits, the end of overtime and vanishing pension that disappears the minute you go to collect it. And now they’re coming for your Social Security money. They want your fuckin' retirement money. They want it back so they can give it to their criminal friends on Wall Street. And you know something? They’ll get it. They’ll get it all from you sooner or later 'cause they own this fuckin' place. It’s a big club and you ain't in it. You and I are not in the big club. ...The table is tilted, folks. The game is rigged and nobody seems to notice. ...And nobody seems to notice. Nobody seems to care. That’s what the owners count on. The fact that Americans will probably remain willfully ignorant of the big red, white and blue dick that’s being jammed up their assholes every day, because the owners of this country know the truth. It’s called the American Dream, 'cause you have to be asleep to believe it." --George Carlin

"There is just enough bullshit to hold things together in this country.
Bullshit is the glue, that binds us as a nation.
Where would we be without our safe, familiar, American bullshit? Land of the free, home of the brave, the American dream, all men are equal, justice is blind, the press is free, your vote counts, business is honest, the good guys win, the police are on your side, God is watching you, your standard of living will never decline… and everything is going to be just fine— The official national bullshit story. I call it the American okie doke.
Every one, every one of those items is probably untrue at one level or another, but we believe them because they’re pounded into our heads from the time we’re children. That’s what they do with that kind of thing—pound it into the heads of kids, ‘cause they know the children are much too young to be able to muster an intellectual defense against a sophisticated idea like that, and they know that up to a certain age children believe everything their parents tell them. And as a result, they never learn to question things. Nobody questions things in this country anymore. Nobody questions it—everybody is too fat and happy. Everybody’s got a cell phone that’ll make pancakes and rub their balls now— Way too fucking prosperous for our own good. Way too fucking prosperous, Americans have been bought off and silenced by toys and gizmos." --George Carlin

"The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, Commonplace Book (quoting 18th century criminologist Cesare Beccaria), 1774-1776

"… [Personal Magnetism] is a peculiar quality of the mental being of the individual that serves to bring other persons into a mood or state of mind sympathetic with that of the magnetic person… People’s mental states are “catching” or “contagious,” and if one infuses enough life and enthusiasm into his mental states they will affect the minds of persons with whom they come in contact…
It seems to us that the prime factor in successful Mental Induction, or manifestations of Personal Magnetism, is Enthusiasm… Enthusiasm gives Earnestness to the person, and there is no mental state so effective as Earnestness. Earnestness makes itself felt strongly, and will often make a person give you attention in spite of him self… But the earnestness must be more that a firm, confident, honest belief in the thing being presented to the attention of the other person. It must be a live, contagious earnestness, which can best be described as Enthusiasm--Enthusiastic Earnestness, that’s the term.
This Enthusiastic Earnestness has much emotion in it--it appeals to the Emotional side of human nature, rather than to the Thinking-Reasoning side. And yet an argument based upon reason and conducted upon logical principles, may be presented with Enthusiastic Earnestness with much greater effect than if the appeal to the reason is conducted in a cold, unemotional way." "I visit and I see that prisons and schools are baby-sitting institutions so that we don't glut the labor market. A lot of what is being taught as Western education is a total, phony hype, as everybody knows. It has nothing to do with anything. It's initiation rites, so you can play ball in the big league park, which has nothing necessarily to do with any great payoff." --Ram Dass
