when the ancient slave, crucified by his master, writhed in agony, when the serf collapsed under the the rod of the corvee overseer, or under the burden of labor and misery, at least the crime of man against man, society against the individual, lay open, exposed. atrocious in its nakedness. blatant in its brutality. The crucified slave, the martyred serf, died with a curse on his lips, and on his dying gaze met his tormentors with hatred and a promise of revenge. only bourgeois society draws a veil of invisibility over its crimes. - rosa luxembourg

"I consider myself above stealing my neighbour's apples and I would not burn down his house, therefore I need no police. But the police are necessary because at least half of mankind is really rotten, and they need the Church because they would make bad use of their freedom. The majority of people must live in prison, otherwise they can't live at all, and that is the reason for laws and organizations." ~ Carl Jung, Children’s Dreams Seminar, Page 521

I like how JP discriminates between men being dangerous and men being violent. A man who is incapable of being violent is easy manipulated and defeated. And unable to defend himself and his family if attacked. Females don't want a male mate who is unable or unwilling to be violent. It's a game of survival of the fittest.

Self-esteem is not what the individual consciously thinks about himself; it's the quality of self-respect manifested in his emotional life and behaviors. By no means are a superficially positive self-image and true self-esteem necessarily identical.

"The victorious man in the day of crisis is the man who has the serenity to accept what he cannot help and the courage to change what must be altered."'[2] Drawing on this, Wygal published a prayer in the March 1933 edition of YWCA periodical The Woman's Press,[3] which was soon shared with a broader audience on the front page of the Santa Cruz Sentinel of March 15, 1933.[4][2][5][6] It read: Oh, God, give us courage to change what must be altered, serenity to accept what can not be helped, and insight to know the one from the other.[4] The prayer was also quoted in the Richmond Times-Dispatch later that month.[7] Substantial quotes from the prayer were also printed in two Atlanta newspapers that month.[8][9] The prayer appeared a few additional times in American and Canadian newspapers in the 1930s, associated with the YWCA or with individual women. In 1937, the prayer was published in a Christian student newsletter, attributing it to Niebuhr.[10] Wygal published the prayer again in her 1940 book We Plan Our Own Worship Services, and attributed it to Niebuhr.[6] It took this form: O God, give us the serenity to accept what cannot be changed, the courage to change what can be changed, and the wisdom to know the one from the other.[11]

Suspicion always haunts the guilty mind. Thomas Paine Suspicion is the companion of mean souls, and the bane of all good society. Robert Burns Suspicion is a heavy armor and with its weight it impedes more than it protects. Hosea Ballou Suspicion is far more to be wrong than right; more often unjust than just. It is no friend to virtue, and always an enemy to happiness. Joseph Addison Suspicion is not less an enemy to virtue than to happiness; he that is already corrupt is naturally suspicious, and he that becomes suspicious will quickly be corrupt.

Inability to accept the mystic experience is more than an intellectual handicap. Lack of awareness of the basic unity of organism and environment is a serious and dangerous hallucination. For in a civilization equipped with immense technological power, the sense of alienation between man and nature leads to the use of technology in a hostile spirit—-to the “conquest” of nature instead of intelligent co-operation with nature. Alan Watts
