Texas Season is improving!
    #10255742 - 04/29/09 12:50 PM (14 years, 11 months ago)

With the rain & warmth that we have been having is bringing the season further along. I was not surprised to find cubes, but I was surprised to find the copes. This is as early in the season as I have ever found them! Normally it is in the summer to fall not early spring. Enjoy the pics!

THE FINDS!!!

Please get help identifying before consuming. There are many people on this website that will be eager to help. Myself included as long as I am able to identify for you, but there are people that are far advanced with knowledge than me. Take pictures with a digital camera and upload to the site. You will get many responses and you will learn! Good Luck! Be Careful & Cautious!!!

are the "copes" active? I see them quite a bit when hunting cubensis in cow fields. I know for sure how to identify the cubes but how do you positively id the copes?

Also the picture you have where you can see your shadow. What are the smaller mushrooms growing near the bottom of the frame? I have always heard of them referred to as "speeders"

I live in Central Texas and I see those weird little guys a lot next to cubes.

I checked out my spot, and see some very positive things going on (I could see 2 cubes from the fence) so I am headed out after sundown to get deep into the location (about 25 acres or better). It rained 3" on the spot monday afternoon with 65f temps for a few hours while the rain went through, and the temps have been mid 80's during the day and low 70's at night since then. W00T:thumbup: here's hoping to a good evening.

Panaeolus cyanescens aka Copelandia cyanescens are more potent than cubes, but there are other Panaeolus inactive species too. You have to study the Copelandia cyanescens and when you think you know, take pictures and upload them here and you will get an accurate response. Good Luck!
