Hating Bush is as bad as hating gays. If people would take a second and give it a little thought, You would find that homosexuals are psychologically damaged. An overwhelming percent were molested and abused as children, are alcoholics/addicts, serious behaviour problems, molest and abuse others usually children, ... . It is natures way to have male and female, and to have these opposites attract. It is abnormal to have sexual contact with the same sex. Don't confuse equal rights, and a serious psychological problem. Except for marriage there is no reason to restrict the rights of homosexuals. By Kicking them to the curb and ignoring their needs, we isolate them and refuse to give them the help they need. This is a very emotionally charged subject, and I am in no way suggesting any prejudice is justified.

i saw a commercial the other day...where some kid says "that's so gay"
and some black comedian says something like "do you know what you're saying when you use the word gay like that?"
i've got to admit i've used the term "gay" to mean other things...and i know it's not PC.....but....come on....words are just words.

No.
Hating a group of people for broad reasons not applicable to most of them is not the same as hating a single individual whose behavior can be assigned solely to them.

Also, homosexuality is no longer recognized as a mental defect.

Living in the SF Bay Area, hating gays here is almost sacrilege.

Since personalisms are not allowed in this forum, I'll just let that statement speak for itself.

I lived in S.F. . Then I moved to Berkeley and went to school there. Hate in any form, for any reason is degenerative! It obscures clarity.

Quote:
What I was getting at with my question is that homophobia has existed throughout the history of our culture, and is considerably less common today than it used to be. "Homophobia" is a modern term, because the idea that homosexuals are evil perverts used to be taken for granted to be true. Sodomy used to be a felony in all 50 states. It wasn't until the Stonewall riots in 1969 that that started to change, and it's only within the last decade that the Supreme Court finally ruled sodomy laws to be unconstitutional. The fact that we've gone from that a few years ago to having gay marriage now legalized in four states is nothing short of remarkable. Gays are "the new blacks" precisely because they have made progress. It was never illegal in this country to be black.
I knew homosexuals were persecuted much worse in the past. I guess I still can't believe that it was completely acceptable (and expected) to hate for such a lame reason.
I didn't know the Supreme Court ruling in the U.S. was so recent, though. Makes me wonder what kind of leaps we'll take between my generation and the next. Exponential times, and all.

Rly? On the other hand, evolution wishes only the best to reproduce, which is why some people think that gay is an evolutionary tool to weed out the gene pool.
I don't think that wording rings true. Evolution doesn't 'wish' anything: evolution is just the on-going result of a big cluster-fuck. There is no 'best,' only best suited to the environment. Sometimes that means the physically weakest, mentally slowest, smelliest, ugliest creatures steal your girl because they have Ferraris.
Talk of gene pools is especially irrelevant recently, with the advent of artificial insemination.

And in any case, that reasoning doesn't make sense. Evolution doesn't have 'tools' to weed out the gene pool. It can't turn someone gay to stop them reproducing.

It doesn't offend me or anything: I'm not gay, and I'm sure most gay people have thick enough skins with all the BS they put up with. But I still think the negative use of words like 'gay' and 'fag' contributes to a subconscious fear and hatred of homosexuals.
Words are only words, but they still shape our worldview: if you associate 'gay' with 'bad' enough times, it's going to effect your opinions. None of us are immune to that kind of pattern strengthening.
