 Relieving Chest Congestion

WTF its jsut getting warm out and I'm getting sick. Got a cough, some congestion in my chest too. When I cough it hurts.
I'm running out to get echinacea right now, but anyone have any remedys for clearing the congestion, or easing the pain when I cough? When I cough, I try to surpress the cough as much as possible to hurt less but I can't always do that... esp. when I smoke bud, which isn't helping. Neither are the cigarettes for that matter.
But yeah, anyone have any home remedies for this?

the last thing you want when its warm outside, but LOTs of Hot Tea and the occasional bowl of hott soup always helps me 
i have horrible breathing issues to begin with and i am an excessive smoker. when i am sick i try not to smoke as much & usually cant even get high so its actually quite a waste

no advise, but have to same thing developing over the past few days.
Its a busy week too, and I haven't had a cold in over a year... I usually get one once a season... why does it have to be some late in the season.

Yeah I know, it sucks, just as it got warm I got sick. I think it may have to do with my heavy drinking and lack of sleep the past few days?
Anyway, I check my school e-mail and I read this:

Amphetamines always clear me right up when I'm sick. 
Probably not the best idea though

Get lots of vitamin C.
For the congestion, if you want to go natural, a soup of onions and celery work wonders. They are both natural decongestants, and taste great.
