I agree for the most part, but one thing we must understand is that the psychedelic experience is NOT seperate from this "reality" that we are now participating in. What we experience from these excursions into the psyche, and into hyperspace, are not merely illusions, but hint at other levels of existence that are just as real as this one.
Personally, this is why they are a very important part of my life, and are a tool I use daily for many reasons.

I'm not saying valuable insights cant be gained from drugs.... I was commenting on how sometimes, the puruit of a "higher level" makes a person lose track of the "highest level"..... which is where you are RIGHT NOW.

It's really fun to take some time off (months/years) from tripping to work on yourself. Then when I feel New, I always circle back again because tripping is New then.

What's even worse is somebody that I got into it is reading this and .. is making excuses for me so she can still do it.

LoL, I think sex DID shift my reality, I was able to see boobs, er I mean things in a WHOLE new way. 
I'm sorry, I thought we were talking about the EXPERIENCE of drugs..... "something happened".....
We could go from the newborn standpoint as well.
While, being born was a pivotal point, And being young was new and vital.... is it the total sum of the experience? Is somehow the freshness and vitality of other future experiences cut off? I can imagine retiring is pretty awesome, OR having your kids FINALLY move out, appreciating the scene for what it is, and not what we wish it was........

I dont see this as a "liability", you are rational. You found out that you got what you wanted from the drugs, and have laid it in its place among all other experiences.
LoL, Just thought of something.....forget everything I just said.....Are you possibly still seeing the psychedelic experience as a "little bit better" than the other experiences of your life................
In which case. I got 5 riding on you dosing within the next year or so.
