Orissa India Question ? ? ?
    #1023550 - 11/05/02 07:38 AM (21 years, 7 months ago)

I have grown several times in the past, with strains including EQ's, Cams, and Creepers. I decided to try Orissa's for the large fruits. Today I woke up to find my 5-6 inch tall Orissa are alreasy loosing their vails. This is the first flush but I figured fruits would larger, or should I wait longer to pick them. As for conditions, It's a straight verm casing, using perilite for humidity, and condensation on the sides of fruiting chamber, so I would thinkg 90%+ on humidity. Just wondering what I doing that is causing such a small fruitting, and if there is anything I can do to help, or when I should pick.

Thanks
Squeeky

Well the rule of thumb is that you should definately pick right before, during or after the veil breaks so yes, you should harvest them now or very soon if the veil is tearing .... dont worry though, many strains are noted for producing the largest fruitbodies during the second, third and later flushes. Just pick and wait for more to come !!

GT's for instance, on my first flushes I got MASSIVE amounts of smaller sized shrooms, caps maybe a inch across at most, but second, third, fourth and fifth flushes produced down right MONSTERS some OVER 3 inches in cap length ! It all depends on the strain and genetics.

A lot also depends on the type substrate, it's depth & optimal conditions. 6T

also, a simple verm casing won't help you produce big fruits :frown:

*and the boy wins a c'gar

Exactly. A straight Verm casing with OI's will not yeild the larger fruits you desire. The nutrients aren't there. Almost every pic of OI's I've seen grown, have them growing of of some sort of poo. Their natural habitat is poo. Give them poo. They want poo.

Fruit size is directly relative to size of substrate, and nutritional content. As the other guy said, use poo, you'll love it and prolly never go back.

P.s. Cant forget water content and humidity.....
