Wheat Gluten Flour
    #1020884 - 11/04/02 12:17 PM (21 years, 3 months ago)

I couldn't help but wonder, as I have some home, if wheat gluten flour would work in place of brown rice flour. It is said to be 75-80% protein - is that good? Texturely, it's similiar to the BRF. I guess I'm wondering what makes for a good nutrition base.

I've used it as a supplement to increase the protein content in PF style cakes, I wouldn't recommend it alone because higher protein content = higher possiblity of contams. However, you might want to experiment using it for just one cake. Also be aware that if you are going to use these cakes as spawn, they may be harder to break up because of the gluten content.

Thanks, I was going to try a couple unless there was a reason why it wouldn't work at all. Sounds like as a supplement it could be especially useful - did you experience improved growth or anything of note in using it?

It seemed to increase my yield, but since I never really bothered to measure any harvests I cannot not say with certainty. I've also tried powered egg white as a protein supplement and seemed to get better results than the wheat gluten. However since I was not working with any isolates, just spores, I cannot rule out other factors.
