That looks like bruising from the birthing step. As long as it doesn't get fuzzy and spread you are fine.

you shouldnt touch the cakes with your fingers. I used a plastic bag to handle them and only the dry verm layer as not to damage the cakes.

Hehe... I noticed this after I looked at the picture, but forgot to include it in my post. The cakes are less prone to contamination after they are fully colonized, but why take a chance. You can birth the cake, verm seal and all, directly into a plastic bag and then from the plastic bag into your terrarium (minus the seal).

I always handled them with my hands, making sure only to contact the verm layer. Never had any contam problems, but I also didn't leave them in there past third flush.
