Peter, I sent you an e-mail with some links.
BAMS seems fine with inviting speakers from earlier MSSF lectures. It's MSSF that seems to be averse to "sharing" speakers from out of area with BAMS. But perhaps it is heresy.

BTW, is there anybody who wants to take the blame (and I do mean blame rather than credit) for the name "Psilocybe cyanofriscosa"?

The Shroomery member named Quankus coined the name "Cyanofriscosa" which is often shortened to "Friscosa". Here is the FIRST thread using the name: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/5168716#5168716
A Shroomery common name which has since spread around the Bay Area, and even other parts of California. I have had many people whom I've never met in my life, inquire about "Cyanofriscosas" or say "So I hear San Francisco has its own species of mushroom??" Amazing how word travels- especially from the internet!
Another common name for the same mushroom that didn't catch on quite as readily is "Cyclone Psilocybe", coined from Paul Stamets book. Interestingly, Stamets was calling these "Friscosas", P. cyanofibrillosa, as you are well aware, but distinguished the "Cyclone Psilocybe" based on the mycelial growth pattern... Which is pretty hasty in my opinion.

Thanks Peter!! That was fun. I especially liked the slide:

Pet peeve: Psilocybe "cyanofriscosa"

What was the title in quotes that you used to describe the group of young(ish!), rogue scientists, such as Stamets, Ott, Weil, Stuntz, etc.?? That was funny.

any major developments regarding p subaeruginascens?
and for 'friscosa', that was always just a nickname for me. 'cyanofriscosa' always sounded like it wanted to be a official but couldn't, while just 'friscosa' was more of a nickname
I'd be surprised if some strains could ever be seperated from p cyanescens anyway. Some patches maybe, but others will probably forever be stuck in some p cyanscens variation, mating to the point where nobody could tell which is which, because they're both, in the same patch
'friscosas' have never been a problem for me with identification, except the first time I saw them, pretty much like everybody else. And once you know that, it's not really a problem anymore. The name game becomes secondary after that. The behavior is exactly like p cyanescens in every way.
It is p subaeruginascens that is the big mystery, especially what triggers fruiting

"The Young Turks of Ethnomycology". Obviously, not so young any more, but at the time, most of them were in college.

Man, I wish I had seen this thread earlier, I would have made it out last night... Anyway, sounds like I missed a super informative evening, and chance to chat with the experts. I guess thats why I'm here in the first place Thank you for being experts...

Thanks to all who came out, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I'll be presenting this topic again to BAMS, SOMA, and FFSC, and probably the Humboldt Bay Myco Society as well early next year. I'll announce these dates here when I know them.
