Have you ever done cakes before? You might try using them in a bulk substrate. A lot of people think doing bulk is not for people new to growing shrooms but it really isnt that hard as long as you can read and follow directions. Just a thought

Have you turned them over and slammed them on a clean, disinfected counter? I have had this problem before and slamming the jars (with lid on) on the counter has worked every time. Sometimes it takes two or three hard raps, but eventually they'll come out.

yes, that's exactly what i tried. i can get the cakes a quarter inch above the mouth of the jar, but the bottom part of the cakes seem a little fatter and will NOT come out. i read the cakes are supposed to shrink a little, i guess these did not.

You did use tapered jars, right? If so, I don't see how the bottom could be wider than the top. If you got them that close to the top, try taking the lid off and shaking them into the palm of your hand, using gloves if possible. They will come out. If you absolutely can't get them out, you can use a sterilized knife blade to *gently* work the cakes out. You'll figure it out. Good luck.

it sounds like you did not use wide mouth jars. if so you may need to somehow trim some cake off or break the jar to get them out. or just cut them up any way you can to get them out and case them.

Actually, I'm sure he used tapered jars. Or he could easily figure this out on his own (or he's really dumb).
My first time around I had that problem, I used the tall tapered jars and the cakes just wouldnt come out.
I coudl get them to stick out by a few cm but thats it. What I had to do was hold it at a 45* angle and tap it a bunch of times, they magically slide out.

yeah i used tapered jars. when i said the bottom of the cakes seemed wider, i meant the bottome didn't shrink but the rest did. so it looks like the bottom of the cakes are exactly the width of the jars. ohwell i'll get them out somehow.
