dumb idea for a terranium
    #1020114 - 11/04/02 06:33 AM (14 years, 1 month ago)

I'm not sure if this is in the right forum, please hassel me if it isn't.

Ok, a long time ago when i decided to start growing shrooms, I made this incubator that consisted of a fish tank heater in a water bath inside a freezer. This seemed to create alot of humidity and not increase the temp a hell of alot (4 degrees C less than what the thermostat on the heater read). Anyway, it was a dumb idea so i canned it and decided to build a decent incubator.

The next really stupid idea was to build a terranium out of a large plastic container filled 1/5 with water with a fish tank heater and bubbler in it. Don't know what the hell is wrong with the damn thing, it's got a drip shield which works and theres plenty of condensation forming on everything inside the damn thing - but for some reason NOTHING will fruit inside it. I have a fully colonised bag of straw inside the thing,  the temp is right, I fan it once a day and give it plenty (about 12 hours) of light a day, but it refuses to show any sign of pinning. This isn't the first time this has happened.

I think the point of this story is that exposed fish tank heaters in water suck, or at least my designs suck.

excuse my spelling, I'm a little retarded.

*terrarium

You don?t need heating in your terrarium, except your room temperature is under 66?F.

Your design sucks. I use fish tank heaters in my incubation chambers, yup thats right chamberS, I have two different types of fish tank heaters and both work like charms. And why do you have standing water in you terrarium? I mean I know why, but there are much better means of humidification.

Fruiting temps are supposed to be lower than incubation temps, this is what initiates pinning.
So either
a) Kill the heat
b) Cold shock

And you might wanna dump some H2O2 in that standing water.

Wah wah wah, they deleted my posts, I hate everything, GET OVER IT YOU FELTCHER! Alright, sorry about calling you a feltcher. Listen bud, if you do have a problem with my posting, confront me, don't go and and say "hey isn't cheifdog a post whore" to everyone, are you trying to muster support to start a war against me? I don't think you are, but why would you try and point this out to everyone? That just seems a little dick to me. Besides. I don't post pointless posts unless they are in pointless threads. And I don't care about your past posts, hopefully they were full of good information to help others, but if they were just calling people out, then you deserve to have your shit deleted. And in the future, if you have problems with me, confront ME, get it? Oh and besides, don't you think that your posts about my pointless posts was little, umm, pointless?

No Cheifdog is just trying to be a smartass....he is doing this because the person pressed the reply button on one of his previous posts instead of going all the way up to the top and pressing the reply button to the original post. I really dont think it matters because if you have any crumb of common sense then you would be able to figure out that the questions people are asking are directed to the original post.

I think you also need to fan more than once a day , especially if you ever get some mushies to develop , the C02 builds up faster when they are present , and primordia is sensitive to C02 .
As far as incubation goes , it takes more than a fish tank heater to raise temp worth a shit in an old fridge , that is a lot of cubic feet to heat with less than a toaster .
Good Luck

OK, my room temperature is around 50'F at night, so i do need a heater. Yeah I know the initial designs really fuckin blow, so I decided to burn it and start again.

I've built this new thing which is like an incubator, but made from clear plastic containers. It has a perspex lid, and is humidified using a wet perlite layer in the bottom, and a fish tank bubbler.

Will this design work?
Suggestions?

By the way, thankyou to all you guys gave me advice, I really appreciate it.
