Cotton swabs as air filter?
    #1017525 - 11/03/02 01:50 AM (21 years, 3 months ago)

Are cotton swabs suitable for filtering contams out of the air? I was thinking of running a piece of 2" PVC pipe into a rubbermaid tub and connecting that to a 3"wideX4"long pipe wih a 3-2" reducer, and putting a screen inside the reducer to make a sort of pocket for the cotton (so I can pack it down in there tight w/o it falling through) and packing it down in there. Let me know what you think guys...

Polyfil would be better than cotton. At least polyfil is not organic. Matter of fact polyfil if the same fiber some filter disks are made of. 6T

cotton isn't used because it absorbs water. You want something nonabsorbant or else bacteria have a free ride in.

Go get some polyfill. They sell it at walmart as 'decorative snow cover' pretty cheap and it works great 100% polyester

Ya that's a good idea. Thats actually what I was plan on using but I just didn't couldn't think of the name of it. Do you guys know if it will keep those microscopic contams out?

Yep, it's the 'standard' in this industry of home cultivation. Just drill a hole in your lids about 1cm in diameter, then pull a chunk of polyfil through so that it's tight but not TOO tight. Cut any excess off the top / bottom so that you don't have the tufts sticking down into your jar, just down to like 1cm below the hole.
