    #1019662 - 11/04/02 12:41 AM (14 years, 1 month ago)

Has anyone read this book? Did you like it? How well did it flow, and how much did you learn from it?

I have read it; twice.

It's a heavy read but very well written.
The book changed my view of life and death.
A must read for anyone plannng on ingesting yage or smoking DMT.

Yeah, I've read it, but my reading comprehension is feeble at best. Great book though, a bit too scientific and structured so I would say the 'flow' isn't all that great. Definitely worth reading. Didn't know anything about the pineal gland until I read it. amazing!

I bought it and I've read it once... its a great book. Strassman is a good writer but not very creative... he writes things as they were, pretty scientific. He's a good writer and the book is great. I think everyone into DMT should read it at least once...

I read it and I really liked it.A lot of people claim that it was too straightforward and scientific, but you gotta remember that he is a scientist, not a mystic. That said,he has some really interesting theories about DMT letting the mind see a kind of mirror reality created out of antimatter. There is definately some crazy, far out shit like that along with the scientific. Unlike a lot of researchers, you can tell he's done the drug he's studying and his research is personal to him.
There's probably nothing totally new in the book, but it is a good comprehensive source of info about DMT and the psychedelic experience.

great book, highly recommended. remember in the early part of the book he shows a little sketch that alex grey did for him of the spirit molecule? grey turned it into a finished painting. it's lovely, like all his paintings. i think strassman was very honest in his book. he talks about his disappointments, the resistance from the buddhists and scientists alike, stuff like that. the other main researcher in this area is serena roney-dougal, who has a web page somewhere or other. she's written extensively about the pineal gland affecting psychic ability and being the command chakra of the indian system of thought. i think bluehoney.com has some strassman audioclips. if anyone's interested.

Not only is this my first visit to this forum, but I just bought this book yesterday so it's interesting that I saw this thread ... I've read about 150 pages of it so far and am loving it ... I actually posted about a little excerpt of it in Other Drugs and Off-Topic that I found interesting ...

it's well written, and unlike others i didn't find it to be too scientific at all. On the contrary, I think that at points Strassman is much too subjective in his analysis of the drug. He comes to several conclusions that are very questionable, and lack any specific proof. No doubt, the studies were amazing and will lead you to a different understanding of the molecular biology of life, death, and spirit - but this really needs more research.

I am about half way through it.Very good so far.

The part about how the pineal is formed at 49 days in a fetus and the correlation between Buddhist beliefs that it takes 49 days for the soul to reincarnate is baffling.

I've read it at least 5 times, and it never fails to surprise me every time. I would love to be in one of his studies.

Yep I read it. It's an insight nothing more nothing less. It's a group of trip reports. And a scientist quasi-semi un-scientific view that DMT might be a catalyst between birth and death consciousness. Worth reading? Yes if your interested in the more deeper questions of what DMT is and it's possible purpose is.

Resistance from the Buddhists? It seemed to me that his theories agreed with the buddhist concept of Re-Birth.

The resistance from the budda groups was because budists frown upon the use of drugs. Probably because the majority of society would frown upon a religion which uses drugs. However most buddists were turned onto buddism because of their prior experiences with phsycedelics. As they progress in there buddism practice they tend to not want to talk about their past drug use.

Oh yes I see now. I don't know why that is. As a buddhist myself I'm happy to admit that. And I'm open to all ideas. The Buddha never taught you to have a closed mind.
