FAE and RH monotub vs Shotgun and can you automate?

Hi everyone. I have been reading these boards religiously for the last couple months and I am planning a grow. I am pretty comfortable with everything so far using syringes and a couple years ago, I inoc'd 12 pint rye jars with golden teacher using pretty inferior techniques and still only had one jar contam. The experiment finished with an over-humid cooler, with too little FAE, resulting in trich infection. MOVING ON. I have used the search function to read teks and answer my questions up until now. I feel much more comfortable after extensive study and am planning to use what I have learned and do a WBS to dung/straw. For fruiting, I plan to experiment with two fruiting chambers, the monotub neglect, and cased trays in the shotgun terrarium. My major question has to do with FAE. The monotub claims to get by with 4-8 polfill stuffed holes for FAE and be successful, while RR suggests to fan the shotgun terrarium several times per day to be successful. Now why is it than one tub with tons of holes UNplugged, needs to be fanned so much, but another tub with a few large PLUGGED holes doesn't need any fanning at all? This seems like 2 conflicting schools of thought regarding FAE. If I wanted to do the shotgun and ignore the fanning, could I put a fishtank air pump and stone in the tub ABOVE the perlite or in a clean jar bubbling water to move air around? On the same token, could I get FAE to my monotub with a pump rig on a timer? Wouldn't a constant flow of fresh air from an airpump be enough to push CO2 around? RR care to comment? I have read both teks so please don't just post a link to a tek. What I am wanting to know is why the major difference in having to tend to one so much and not the other when the same principles apply?

you could just get a computer fan and mount it on the bottom of your terrarium. I very rarely fan, maybe twice a week and I get some very good results.

Hi: Yes you can; see may post to the man who wanted to build a wood (toy box) grow box. I've laid out a fully closed circuit and automated mono tub. It's not cheap to build but well worth the cost because it's a very clean closed system to grow in.

trooper are you using wet perlite in your tub? And if so is the fan mounted below the top of the perlite?

actually I have about 2 and a half inches of water in the bottom with a fish tank heater and a bubbler. Then I put a layer of perlite on top of the water, it floats, and the fan is sittng right about the water/perlite line. Then there is a shelf that I mounted in there about 3 or 4 inches above the water line so the c02 sinks to the bottom and is drawn out by the fan. Make sense?

definitely. Nice setup. I might have to try that. I live in the south though so I might not need the fishtank heater for very much longer. However, I imagine warmer water helps with humidity. One more thing, do you have a clear top and light?

Yeah there is a window that I cut in the top and a flouresent that's on a timer 12on 12 off. and the heater really helps with the humidity I just have mine set low to around 72. Good luck to you. and here's some motivation.
