Go to ebay and look for an All American. IMO, they are the best, longest lasting pressure cookers that I've come across.

Oil the seal? I have a really old PC and it doesn't say anything about oiling the seal. Is that something I should do? Its so old you cant tell what psi its at. My mom said its always 15, just follow the directions for cooking meat.

Peace

Well, it does say oil the seal in my instruction book, which I ignored to my cost. I really don't know if that's normal procedure for all of them, though. I guess as long as it don't break and works, your pc should be fine.

I've just realised, read in the wrong light, this message could sound very odd...

Oiling seals... hmm.

Yeah I hae a presto PC and in the good ol' instruction booklet it says that it comes with a pre oiled seal but if you start loosing pressure or the lid becomes hard to undo the add a little cooking oil along it.

No worries Bitchcakes.

You just have to be smart enough to use one.
Anyone that would leave a pressure cooker alone while cooking is a complete moron!!!!

Get a All American pressure cooker......they are the best.
I have bought 2 of them off of Ebay.....a 910 and a 930.
You can get a great deal on them on Ebay.

Buy a pc, just be careful using it. It still sounds a lot easier and more successful than fractional sterilisation or using some oven tek. Be sure to read the instruction booklet, and let my idiocy be a warning. Even then, I managed to buy and use a second pc, this time without melting anything or blowing things up, so it isn't that difficult if care is taken.

my friend's mirro canner/cooker costs $39 and didn't require any oiled seal. it's easy using the mirro: turn the heat on high, wait until the 15 lb indicator jiggles, turn it to low. it's faster and more certain than fractional sterilization. my friend was intimidated at first but got things perfect on his first try.
