Thistle
    #10181031 - 04/16/09 09:27 PM (15 years, 3 days ago)

Anybody know what species of Thistle this is?I found it while picking shrooms in the field.it was an awesome purple color,as well as the blooms,but it lost most of it's color.I hope it roots.They say they have medicinal qualities.

thistles are pretty cool, a variety similar to that grows here in Washington.

i tried to id a bunch of thistle a year back but lost interest lol. milk thistle is the one you want, its med properties are liver cell rejuvenating! also it is rumored to maybe be one of the only cures or remedy for deadly amanita poisoning:thumbup:

idk if that think is going to root, the flowers might open but if you wanted to increase the chances of it rooting id take the buds off

good luck, ill look into an id for you

if you could get shot of just one leaf id would be hella easy, the shape and patterens are usully the determining factor other than the flowers but yours are closed and pretty much all thistle buds look the same

it resembles the milk thistle to me but it's tough to define thistles, the different species are very similar indeed.
you'll need close ups of all parts including the flower to get anywhere with this IMO.

good luck ! :grin:

a picture of the original bush and of an open flower will seal the deal if its Silybum marianum {milk thistle}

the flowers should be purple{they look to be} and should have pretty long sharp leaves pointing out from the bud{kinda like shake leaves on MJ buds}

the leaves on the plant should have defined WHITE veins
when i hunted them this was the first thing i looked for

ill post a crude tek or something, whatever i decide to do
going from seed to end product as a capsule or tinture idk

im pretty sure its the seeds that have the goodies in em, i dont remember how much you would need for a decient treatment ither. but im sure getting quanity of seeds wouldnt be a problem seeing thos things grow in massive clumps,ive seen them line a fence for like 1/8 mile before idk if they were milk thistle tho but thistle none the less.

harvisting seeds would be a suckfest as the plants are pretty mean with their spikes everywhere
