prepaid/deposit cards and purchasing online...

Is it possible to make purchases online using a prepaid/deposit card without having any information regarding the owner of the card? kind of like a cashier's check in card form, yeah?
i would love to be able to purchase a prepaid/deposit card with a cashier's check under a false name or purchase a prepaid/deposit card from a store with cash. i would think i can order stuff online sent to a PO box without worrying about information on my indentity through the purchase.

A lot of places that accept CC online require a "verified address" which prepaid cards do not provide. They require these verified addresses to prevent CC fraud. You can use them to pay for most services, but when it comes to ordering stuff online it's hit and miss on who will ship to an unconfirmed address.

i ordered a deposit/prepaid card online using a friend's name (my friend knows and does not mind since they do not live in the states, but owns the place). i'm going to try something out and post back.

This thread was moved from Money Matters.
Reason: You will probably find a lot more help in the security forum. I'll move the thread there.

This is not true.
You can use prepaid cards to order apparently transparently to the vendor.
I believe the patriot act has restricted some of these means, but in any case there are still many card vendors who provide the ability to enter addresses online without any confirmation. These addresses will be able to be verified by the vendor.
Some cards, however; require bullshit. I think the green dot cards require submitting a social security number or TIN or soemthing.
As to whether you can not submit personal infromation: yeah, but it depends on your facilities. You'd need to communicate annonymously with the internet sites and have an address not connected to you.

A debit card is different than a cc. They still may demand a verified addy though. There may be a way around that. If you are going to move, you could do one and it would go to the old addy and when you moved, they wouldn't know where you are now.

Yeah, but I would imagine people are more concerned with identity then address or whatnot.
All the prepaid cards I've seen offer credit transactions only, which is cool cuz I don't know any online vendors who process debit transactions.

i just do not want to purchase particular things online and have my identity linked to it. I do not want to do it so much as to hide my identity from theft, but want to purchase particular things knowing that it is under a different "entity".
i have it worked out so that i use the card and address under my friend's misspelled name. if anyone questions, my friend has no idea about anything (lives in brazil) about said card.
