Dry substrate how much water to inject?
    #10164039 - 04/14/09 01:09 PM (14 years, 11 months ago)

I'm thinking about injecting my substrate with more water as it seems very dry.

i searched shroomery and read a post from RR that said injecting the substrate with a syringe can help. My substrate is a rye grain and is about the size of two house bricks, could anybody suggest how much to inject?

I thought it was pretty self explanitory. Take the syringe and inject it into the sub. Try not to inject it all in one place.

I should tell you that when I give people advice with 100% rye grain subs, I often tell them to add up to 50% verm. Rye grains don't hold moisture easily and this is why your sub has dried out so much.

yea it's highly nutritive but it's best spawned to verm, or possibly coir at a minimum of 30% verm or coir. Personally I've found rye grains expensive and never would have just fruited.

If the rye came in a bag you may have been better off to fruit in the bag.

when did you spawn it? do you have a casing on it?

i spawned it a week ago, i've got pins about 1cm to 2cm long, but the substrate looked very dry when i checked it today, i'm fruiting in a shotgun terrarium, and no i've got no casing

casings are not required with cubes so long as the substrate has enough moisture retention of it's own. A lesson for future grows I suppose.
