Absolutely not. You don't want to go any further south than Santa Barbara, and even that is probably too far south to be a truly chill place.

San Diego is full of military people and conservatives; Irvine is near LA and so its basically just another part of the worlds largest shopping mall.

Can you get into UCSC or Cabrillo college? Or somewhere near SF? Humboldt has a nice university too, I'd go there over most other places.

Depends on what type of person you are. NorCal except for the bay area is a shithole in my opinion. Plenty of people seem to like it but I cant understand why, theres entirely nothing to do there.

That said San Diego is a fucking awesome city, easily one of the top 5 cities in the US in my opinion. If you are going to UCSD keep in mind that you arent living in the San Diego city, you are living in La Jolla and its a 10-15 minute drive to the downtown area of San Diego. A lot of hippies don't like populated areas like LA or San Diego, so depends on what kind of a person you are. Personally I think LA is the greatest city in the US, but plenty of people will espouse small shitty little areas where I guess they stare at trees, though there are huge amounts of places to do that in and around the LA area. You are going to have to visit the areas.

I am sure you can get a flight in close by. Where are you located now, because you won't get a flight out of SFO to Eureka lol. Maybe Sacramento, Fresno, Stockton or something of that nature to Eureka.
