Recently, I have been reading a story about cultivation of different mushrooms. Recently, I decided 'hey! I'm gonna grow a buncha shiitakes'. Now, I have read quite a bit about using an aquarium heater in a water supply to heat incubators. I'm no genuis, but I guess this might lead to a nice breeding ground for bacs and contams. So, am I right? If I am right, might you have a link to a good alternative?

Add H2O2 if you're worried about it. Change the water every so often. It really shouldn't be a problem since it's seperate than the fruiting chamber.

I add a slosh of bleach, it's cheaper than H2O2

if your going to lie about it, at least say your growing button mushrooms, because shiitake arn't grown the same way. you can use a closed water container to put your aquarium heater in.

I'm not saying anyones' full of shit or leading you astray..But from personal experience I can say that the moisture does lead to more contaminates. Thats why I use a 7 watt nightlight for my heat source.I grow button mushrooms too and can relate to the contaminate problem. If you must use water tho..go with the bleach or peroxide.
