Interesting.

I'm going to research average alkaloid levels for cacti of the Americas, obviously the king is Peyote.

Thanks

In africa there are Euphorbia, but they are not cacti as they lack aeroles. Everything else, as doc said, has been introduced by man

Honestly I'm beginning to believe that most of the San Pedro references actually meant bridgesii. I have yet to come across a decent Pachanoi species for potency. My bridgesii will kick anyone's ass, you don't need much of it either.

The shamans also considered the number of spines they had to be important to, like 6-8 was mediocre,9-10 was powerful, 11-13 would bring you to hell

i was doing a little research on wiki and found this statement at the end of the succulents page "Virtually all cacti are succulents, but many succulents are not cacti"

I think many succulents can be found through out the world in desert climates. Hoodia looks really similar to cacti but its considered a succulent too.

that statement is true, but confusing to n00bs lol.

i prefer to think of cacti as cacti and succulents as succulents, it's easier on the brain that way

cacti are defined by the presence of aeroles, which succulent plants do not have.

i know that's not strictly true but ya know what i mean

That is a true statement, all cacti are succulents; the thing to remember is North and South America are the only places where Cacti can be found. I never found it really confusing. Only when you run into succulents that don't have leaves and look a bit more globular.
