Is there anyway to tell if my FC is humid enough without a hygrometer? These pins were actualy grown in a mycobag but i made an FC and transfered the substrate to it.

It is very hard to tell if the humidity is sufficient or not. You should probably go out and get a hygrometer.

If you build and maintain a shotgun terrarium exactly by the tek, humidity will be in the 90s. RR

That Tek looks great and I plan to use it as soon as I spawn, but just one thing has been holding me off from drilling the holes.
Many ask, "how many holes, how far apart"?
I don't want to sound like a whiner, but if there was a notation or a specification for that then I think it would win more people over and quicker too.
Any idea as far as a specification for that?

Search man, search. 1/4" holes, 2" apart on all 6 sides. This information is repeated on the board a hundred times.
Also, what do you mean by "spawning"? Did you mean birthing instead?

Everything I've read says 2-3" apart on all 6 sides. That's how my friend made his and it's working beautifully.

I checked the Tek http://www.mushroomvideos.com/Terrarium-Tek and it doesn't recommend anything in the way of hole spacing which is why I mentioned it. I'm sure it is all over the forums ... just not in the Tek. Since we were on the topic of this Tek, the first question that is typically asked is "how many holes, how far apart"?
I'm not doing cakes. I have jars of WBS. I'll be doing some 6 quart trays inside of a Shotgun.

Ah, okay. Be sure to account for the fact that trays cover much of the perlite, reducing its useful surface area. Good luck

Recently it has been suggested to look for hygrometers at your local cigar shops. Some links have been listed here recently and you can find a damn nice one for like $4.00-$5.00
I may pick up one or two soon considering they are cheaper than a pack of cigs. Can't afford not

I thought about that. I made some pedestals out of 4" PVC pipe and will make an elevated platform using Egg Crate to set the trays on. Shouldn't impede the air flow much and it will get the trays up off of the Perlite.

The shotgun terrarium is based on sound science, and has been tested for years to work when built right. The number of holes arnt specified because it doesnt have to be exact, you can see roughly by the pictures how far apart they are. The number of holes will depend on what size of terrarium you use.
1/4 inch holes around 3 inches apart should be fine.
If your looking for a good hygrometer, cigar shops sell them and if you dont have one localy, online cigar shops cell the,, well what do yo know, 5 sec search of google popped up some great cigar shops online

Im wondering, does the spacing/number of holes vary with the size of the terrarium? Remember a larger terrarium has a smaller surface area:volume ratio than a smaller terrarium, and thus a smaller holes:volume ratio.
By the way, if anyone doesn't have a ruler handy, the short side of a credit/ID card is 2.125 inches...

If your cakes are drying quickly boost the humidity. Buy a cheap hygrometer, it helps in the long run.
