I guess I could go for all three options but I've recently started to slow down the masturbation and it seems to bring on a better orgasm (if thats what I want to do...shoot that is).
Then again I find that quick shuffles are good for desensitizing if your gonna have good long sex that day.

I go slow.
I have some recommendations for male masturbation.
Male Solo:
If your flexible, sit in the lotus position or "Indian" style...control the breathe...visualize your chakras...evoke the Succubus...and proceed to pleasure yourself (use a lubricant if you find the need to). Masturbation - a singular pleasure !
A survey once reported that 98% of teenage boys admit they masturbate, and the rest are lying! This may be an overstatement, and it's always hard to establish absolute truth in any survey on sexuality and sexual behavior, because people say what they think is normal, but one thing seems likely: the vast majority of men have masturbated at some point in their life and most men do it regularly. And I should think that many men - especially teenagers - have felt at least some guilt about it.
And why is that? Well, note the word "admit" in the conclusion of the survey above: doesn't it imply something almost shameful, to be hidden, to be kept secret? It's a sad reflection on our attitude to sexuality that we are still suffering the residue of Victorian morals, where boys were discouraged from masturbation by the threat of blindness, weakness, madness, and so on. In fact, in a survey conducted in America in 1994, about half of all men and women who masturbate said that they felt guilty about it.
So why so much guilt?
For some people it seems like an inferior form of sexual expression - at least when compared to sex with a partner. But this is simply wrong - it is the simplest form of sexual pleasure, and, free of the complex issues that can surround sex with a partner, it can be an easy and satisfying way of responding to the fundamental human sexual urge. (I know some people believe that resisting the sex drive is a sign of enlightenment or spiritual evolution. Well, they're entitled to their view. I guess they're not reading this page anyway.)
Another cause of the guilt is the lingering influence of religion over what we see as acceptable standards of moral behavior. In the view of Betty Dodson, who achieved fame for her enlightened approach to masturbation - she actually ran classes for women in the 1970's and 1980's to teach them how to masturbate - we all have some degree of repression because of the church, it's just that some people overcome it better than others. She has made the point that masturbation needs to be celebrated, not allowed to induce guilt. But she admits that overcoming the guilt can be difficult - for many men, it was instilled at the hands of their mother, at a very early age, when she told them not to touch themselves "down there". Well, there never was going to be a less effective instruction to a boy than that! But of course the consequence of our mothers' difficulty with our innocent sexuality when we were babies may be that the experience and enjoyment of our own bodies is taken away from us, or we are made to feel ashamed in some way of our maleness and what we can do with it: hardly a good position from which to achieve true emotional health.
The question is, what can men do to feel better about wanking? I think you can start from the position that men will do it, whether or not they feel guilty or bad about it. The answer, then, lies in changing our attitudes so that we can enjoy masturbating, and indeed celebrate it, as an essential part of our maleness. I remembered Julie Burchill, a newspaper columnist on The Guardian newspaper in the UK, recounting some of the responses she had had from men after she wrote a column about men and masturbation. It seemed that teenage boys, in particular, were indiscriminate about how and what they got off with - their choice of masturbatory sex objects ranged from the conventional like mattresses and pillows through to things like melons, and, most oddly, mud (well, it's wet and silky, I guess). These boys were learning something about themselves, their sexual responsiveness, and the way their bodies worked.
Perhaps our masturbation becomes more controlled as we get older (or maybe that should say "more boring"? - a perfunctory nod to discharging a body function, instead of a glorious few moments of pleasure?) but it still goes on, even when men have sexual partners. For heterosexual men, masturbation is often secret, and a wife who discovers (how?) what her man is doing will fail to understand, and assume in some way it reflects badly on her. We need to explain that it is a normal part of our experience of maleness, a healthy and rewarding thing to do.
But is it really good for you?
In 1994 Dr Jocelyn Elders lost her job as US surgeon-general because she dared to say that masturbation should actually be taught (why do we have such a repressed attitude? It's almost like saying that we aren't entitled to learn how to obtain pleasure from our bodies). She said, "It's practicing for sex." And so it is: it can help you learn how to control and delay your responsiveness so that pleasure is heightened for both you and your partner when you finally come, and for some (perhaps a few) men, it is the basis of learning advanced sexual techniques like becoming multi-orgasmic. At the very least it is a pleasurable and enjoyable thing to do, where you don't have to worry about anyone but yourself.
And how often is it done?
I remember on Youth Camps as a teenager taking part in jacking-off contests, where the idea was to see who could come first. It wasn't a helpful way of learning to be a good sex partner, but it did teach me one thing: young men have a great need to learn about sex, and what is normal, which is simply not fulfilled in everyday life. They will therefore do things like having jerk-off contests to see how their friends' bodies have developed, and what they can do with them. No-one teaches you how much come is normal, nor how far it "normally" shoots, or how long it takes to come - these are things that we either pick up, or don't, from older brothers, friends, drunken late night gossip, or exaggerated boasting. And even if we don't pick it up in these ways, the result of this misinformation is that we spend much of our time worrying about whether what we are doing is normal. So, to set your mind at rest: whatever you are doing is normal.
Well, that's to say, it's normal for you: but that isn't enough, I know. We all seem to need to compare ourselves with each other to see how we fit into the great span of masculinity. And so, firstly, it seems to be only when men get to their fifties that the number who aren't doing it regularly drops below the number who are. Up till then, it seems to be one of the longest D-I-Y jobs a man ever tackles. He may tackle it every day when he's a teenager, but as he gets older the frequency may decrease. Strangely, the Sex in America survey of 1994 suggested that wanking is actually more common among people who have a sexual partner than those who don't - make of that what you will. But if you read the figures it seems that three times a week might be an average in one's thirties, and perhaps once a week by age forty. But, like everything else to do with sex, there aren't any rules. Just don't overdo it for you, and you'll be fine.
