will damp perlite in a closed birthing chamber do the job?A friend may have to be away from his shrooms so would only be able to mist/air a couple times during the fruiting period. worst comes to worst he could move his chamber with him, but it would not be a good idea for many oither reasons he describes. so will damp perlite in a closeed chamber be ok, should he make any other modifications, or what?

you need air exchange or you will probably be disappointed.

I used perlite my first time, worked like a charm. Perlite + air exchange every other day is a good way to go, especially if you don't have a lot of time. At one time I had to leave them for about 5 days, but they were still ok when I got back. 5 days is probably the maximum time you should have between air exchanges.

You should really have air exchange at least 3 times a day.

IM no expert but why dont you just go buy a fish pump and air stone, put in a jar of h20 and h202, cut a couple of holes in the bottom of your growing chamber and stuff em' with polyfil?? Use perlite on bottom and TADA...you got air exchange and humidifacation. Not too hard, and still gets the job done.

The fish tank bubbler would help a whole lot, but nothing exchanges air like a good manual fanning of the terrarium. Oh yeah, I agree with StS on how many air exchanges per day, 3 at the least, I go for at least 5.
