colonizing poo look alright?

I spawned 3 1/2 pints with poo:peat and left some chunks on top of the substrate as well as mixed in between. Is this alright by looking at the pics....as far as overlay problems?

Looks ok. But why are you worring about overlay at this point. Overlay occurs on casing layers. Also I have not heard of anyone using peat in the substrate (poo/straw yes). Peats normally used in casing layer.

You planning on casing ?

I mixed a pan of poo last night, and I was wondering whether or not you are supposed to case it once it has colonized the poo??? Anybody know or have experience with casing poo?? How long does it usually take for the poo to colonize?? I have it in the icubator sitting in a constant 83F.  :wink:

Casing is an optional step after the substrate is fully colonized. It results in more even and prolific flushes.


Cheesy: I think you mean you spawned the poo with 3 half pints, not the other way around. It looks ok, but try not to give it a lot of light, as it might start to pin and stop colonizing the rest of the poo. There is nothing wrong with mixing peat with it, it would act as a moisture retainer. Overlay is the conditionn of an over-colonized casing layer, not substrate layer, and results in a dead layer of mycellium that inhibits mushroom growth.

Depends on the strain (7 - 10 days)
Yes casing is the best thing to do with poo.
