Fanning question
    #1013415 - 11/01/02 03:33 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

A friend of mine whos a newbie at growing shrooms, has 12 completely colonized cakes he would like to birth anyday now.  However he'll be out of town in a week for two whole days.  He's wondering if he should delay birthing until a period he will be around all the time to fan.  He's also curious what effects two days of not-fanning will have on his yield.

FYI:  He's using perlite and a fish-tank bubbler for humidification. Thanks

12 cakes will produce a lot of co2.  If you are using a bubbler that will put some fresh air into the chamber.

Worst case a bit of stunted growth.

You could stick the cakes into the fridge (suitably sealed up) and wait till your around to look after your friends

What a terrible thing to lay on somebody with a head full of acid

You should be safe by delaying the birthing for a week and two days. If you do birth, and are using perlite humidification, give them a good fanning before you leave for two days and leave the lid of the terrarium cracked. It also helps to have a filtered hole near the bottom of the terrarium to let CO2 to drain out. Not fanning and leaving stale air gives contams and such a foothold and starts to kill off the mycellium.
