Anyways, i went to an exhibit of his last summer. I had smoked before with a friend (of course i had to!!) and when i was lookin at all of his work that was there, there seemed to be this amazing subtle reoccurring theme in all his photos. i can't really explain it too well, but when i was there it all just made sense.
it was the best exhibit i've been to so far.. though i am going to an andy warhol exhibit this weekend, should be fun

some weeeeird coincidental shit..
I was researching interesting portrait artists today and somehow came to the Dali wikipedia page.
The whole thing with Dali on Franco and all his other politics, it seems like he was always just saying things that weren't necessarily what he believed.
I'll probably be looking into this a bit more.

why does it matter to some of you that he did drugs or not? does the art speak more to you if he was on drugs? if so, why? if not, why?

that's kind of my point, though. Dali was such a surrealist/dadaist/post-structuralist (before there were post-structuralists) that he fucked around with meaning a lot. this is fine and well, and imo an important thing to do to show how difference constructs meaning all around us. however, Franco was a real facist, and a real murderer, and imo necessitated a real response - not what essentially amounted to public support.

ah, good ideas.
I dont know, I guess there will always be someone who is less serious than ourselves.
Maybe he really didn't find what people thought of his stance on it important.
Maybe it was a crazy publicity stunt!

It shouldn't matter at all. I think trying to make something artistic just about drugs cheapens it anyway.
