i need to know how long dried ones last, because ive noticed after a month in a plastic bag they seems to rehydrate and smell differently. how long should they remain potent because i heard they can last a long time?

Well just make sure there 100% dry before you putt them in a bag, ecspecialy if there in there a month,if there wet and you put um in a bag for a month I would think they would get all moldy and rotten!

I've read that they can last over 3 years when properly dried and stored. They have to be bone dry, and then frozen. If it's "rehydrating" I suggest putting some extra dessicant in the container.

Yeah, they pretty much have to snap like a twig. When u want to store them for , lets say, next summer, put them in a ziplock bag and in the freezer.

A ziplock baggy will not cut the mustard -- for storage.
A 3mm or better autoclave bag is best. Place cracker dry (as in, crisp) shrooms in bag, vaccum air out & heat seal.
For ultra long term storage. Place that package in another bag & do same, for double protection.
That will last months & months.

Put a drying agent in the bag with the mushrooms. I've got a large container with a shot glass of dryrite in there soaking up the moisture. I also saw it posted somewhere that you can empty a teabag and then fill it with a drying agent and staple it closed again. I'd also suggest using something besides a plastic bag, they don't cut it. I've got a glass container with a rubber seal that works wonders for me, a lot better then bags ever did.

Fiend?? have you ever stored mushrooms for an extended period before?? The rehydrate after a while if they aren`t stored corretcly. It`s necessary to put a small mount of dessicent in the baggie to maintain a dry environment.

Ziplok bags don't work at all the dried product will re-hydrate and go bad, my friend uses canning jars 1/2 oz filled with cracker dry product with a drying agent in the jars, jars go into a container (to keep out light) container has more drying agent in it. Container goes in fridge.
No Problem

if there in a normal baggie rolled tight...then placed in a ziploc bag shut tight then rolled tight, then have tape around it to keep tight and sealed...how long can they last???
in this question i dont care if its a "shitty" way of storing them, im just wondering how long would they stay potent stored like that, and if its any factor no light is getting to them AT ALL...

Loss of potency isn't the biggest issue compared to the risk of your mushrooms rehydrating some and then lying for a month in a dark place.
Yuck.

Dried correctly, stored in double zip-bags with little or no air in them, then placed in a jar in the freezer they'll last for years. Trout estimates about 9 years but it could be a lot longer.

exactly they will go bad (rehydrate and grow mold) before they have a chance of loosing potency. Do not leave them like that for too long (guessing a month or two maybe)
