Lowes has it.  Most garden stores/nurseries have it.  I have tired it and noticed very little difference, but its supposed to keep your grains from sticking together.

There are loads of posts on gypsum aka plaster of paris etc.

I have pc'd bird seed and have had no need for gypsum - none of my stuff has clumped together etc.  I have not tried rye berries they may be different.

Curtesy of Mickey Rouke  "I just simmer high millet birdseed for 30-45 minutes, rinse, and then strain. Let the grain dry for 15 minutes or so, then pack your jars and PC. Perfect water content every time."  PLUS no clumps !  :smirk:

I couldn't find gypsum either although I guess you could always rip apart some drywall.

Rye grain is most popular because it does not stick together and breaks apart easily without the need of gypsum.

I didn't realize that's what gypsum was.  It might be easier to find now.
Thanks!

If you have any home brewing stores in your area, they would be sure to have it.

thanks for the replies i'll call the home brew store. what exactly is the purpose of the gypsum? only to stop clumping  or is it a mandatory ingrediant? kramer is going to try a couple jars of rye berries. he heard they work nice.

Not mandatory - just to stop clumps
