Same here man. I went the first 5 years, and it seemed to go downhill every year. First year was AMAZING. Second was fucking awesome. Third ruled. Fourth was pretty good.... It just kept getting shadier every year.. with shittier bands. I kept running into more and more sketchy people.. Now its turned into a commercial-jackoff-fest. The year DMB headlined was my last year.. I'll stick to the smaller, more intimate fests. 'Tis where most of the real heads are at anyway....

yeah I was there a few years ago, was an awesome time. All Good was probably one of my favorite venues. Pissed I missed Rothbury Been to a bunch of good ones in the south too. Harvest Fest, Suwanee..
I just moved to the west coast though so I'm probably missing a bunch of fests I usually go to..

suwannee is always a great time. i've been to quite a few festi's there, but the best by far was the first non-bluegrass fest that they had there. it was in '96 or '97. i can't remember what the first one was called, but it was later renamed cosmo's sunshine daydream. it had peter rowan and dave grisman, hot tuna, quicksilver messenger service , david gans band, its a beautiful day, rusted root, and a bunch of dead-related bands.
definately the best festival experience i've had.
edit: and thanks for stickying this thread, shroomism. its nice to see this topic being taken seriously.

No problem man. It's serious business. A lot of people go to fests for their first, or hell even 10th time.. ignorant and expecting it to be this hippie-wonderland free-for-all where everyone is chill and kind-hearted. While that may be the case at some places, it certainly isn't the rule and there is always exceptions. There are people with "bad" intentions at virtually every fest I have ever been to, even the small more 'family' oriented ones. I just learned to steer clear of them. Or 'disarm' them if necessary.. Usually the most you'd have to worry about is getting ripped off, they will gladly rip you off of your money... or selling bunk shit. Violence is possible, but unlikely as there would almost assuredly be people stopping it.
Just keep your eyes open and be aware of your surroundings. Use good judgement.. Shady people are usually pretty easy to spot and avoid.. at least in my experience..
On a side note... did you ever go to Sunshine Daydreams in WV.. on Trip's Farm? The predecessor to All Good? That was some fantastic times..

Thanks -Moe.phan- I haven't been to a concert in a long time and am really looking forward to the Phish shows and Bonnaroo but don't plan on bringing a bunch Of Supplies....During traveling but of course I will want some of Reba's creation before I enter the shows...I'll be extra sure to be carefull in the lots...I was always under the Impression That at Bonnaroo the police were sort of un-invited am I wrong about this??? Thanks for any replies.....>>>>^E

The police are certainly NOT un-invited especially at Roo.. there are undercovers walking around the fest. While you are much more likely to run into them COMING in or LEAVING the fest, on the roads.. they are inside as well. Be careful and don't be a sketchy mofo, keep your head on straight and you'll be fine.

Sunshine Daydreams was my first fest in '95 I think, it majorly changed my life... heh. Later moved locations nearby and became All Good, but the spirit of the fest and good vibes remain true to the original. I'd definitely recommend it. They always have hot lineups as well.... You can't go wrong really.

good post!
keep your head on your shoulders kids. just because you are spun to the point of seeing cosmic energy rippling through all of creation doesn't mean everybody is.
(not saying there isn't cosmic energy rippling through all of creation, just that there's a time and a place)

Thank you for this! I also want to make a special emphasis on safety for women. My first pseudo-fest was a Panic show in colorado. I had a great time, but afterwards, still coming down from my acid, I had heard some of the venue employees talking about at least two reported incidents of rape.
In an atmosphere where people are totally out of their skulls on all kinds of black market drugs, women need to take special precautions about staying with friends and keeping their wits about them.
Bear Creek '08 was my first festi, and OMFG was it sick. There was one show though where I was laying on our blanket tripping balls and this chick came and just crashed on the blanket. I was cool with it and just put my blindfold on and journeyed, ignoring her totally. But by the time the show was over we were trying to gather our stuff up and this chick would not, COULD NOT wake up. My friends and I, along with this older hippy couple, just kept trying to shake her awake and looking at each other like "what do we do?" We weren't about to hand her over to the police, and the security at the venue was only there to keep people from bringing beers into the shows. Eventually she woke up and stumbled off into the crowd.
It wasn't a moment I was very proud of, we should have done more. Then again, festivals need to have a plan to deal with medical emergencies. If there was a neutral medic tent I would have brought her there, but their wasn't. I can only imagine as to what happened to her the rest of the night. I still wonder if she found her friends safely or if something happened to her that night.
