To much Nitrogen in substrate?

Just wondering if you can over nitrogenize your substrate? If you can what are the side effects, or signs of have doing so?

what are you trying to do here.

Nitrogen you know the nutrient!? Im talking about adding a nitrogen supplement to the substrate and over apppling it.

I don't know what the effects of too much nitrogen would be but it is best to go for a well balanced nutritive substrate.

I believe an optimum nitrogen ratio is 1:20 or something. I know that coffee grounds for instance have a ratio of 1:17 and coir has a ratio close to 1:200 or something. I'm unsure how much chicken manure has but I assume it is higher than coffee grounds.

Yeah Im guessing I might have over done it. Im used to just going with my intuition when mixing recipes. This time I added bone meal (12-0-0)that I had laying around to coir and coffee and put about 1 cup to 20 cups of coir and coffee. I then read on the bag of bone meal add 1 TBS for each cubic foot of soil (obviously this is for plants) I immediately thought sh*t I f'd up. Anyone else think I did?? Ill update results in about 2 weeks....

shrooms are not plants...
they are not really nitrogen munchers... though they do eat nitrogen.
thats a CRAPLOAD of nitrogen... thats like 192 parts nitrogen/ 20 cups other stuff...

you should put a clone into it and grow that out of it...
leave the shrooms there too, they will grow

What do you mean? Ill tell you its colonizing already, well hopefully. Please explain your idea though if its worth trying.

If you had coffee grounds in it already you likely did overkill.
However searching for information on the nitrogen content of bone meal I found this thread.
The OP says bone meal has 6% nitrogen and agar(name) pointed out later in the thread what he called an optimum nitrogen content for substrates of 2.7% coir has little nitrogen. The figgure I quoted was a carbon to nitrogen ratio and I believe for coir it was actualy arround 1:237 or some shit like that. I'm not sure how cross compatable that data is.
Bone meal itself could comprise ~40% vs. coir to reach that ratio. Given that coffee grounds is recommended at 20% at maximum substrate volume in coir I assume that it's more or less 12% nitrogen, in that area Just assuming for the sake of finishing this post. So if you had a perfect nitrogen balance with the coffee grounds the blood meal would up the nitrogen content only .16%. This should be hardly noticeable, if you didn't add enough coffee grounds it should actually improve your substrate, so won't worry.

Thank you for that information man that was pretty descent of you to track that down! I now know with supplied info I over did it for sure, so well see its effects shorty and I will re-post to this thread with results in a week or so... Thanks again Scavenger

You shouldn't have plants in your grow room. Plants harbor pests and mites that will destroy your mushrooms.

dont know bout you guys but here they have these things called IR detectors on helicopters that they use at night to see which houses light up like the sun from the heat of the lamps or the exhaust from the circulation fans.
its called a patio bitches!

Just to update this thread, I had no issues as far as colonizing is concerned. Reached 100% in average time so no benefit either. Ill update again once fruiting starts and post back any interesting results if any.

I'd bet that the pigs find aquarium enthusiast all the time. I'd laugh my ass off if they stopped by ... well after I told them where to stick it.
I know some guys that have more water in their basements than I do in my pool! Corals need some hellacious lights.
