It depends on what part of florida you are in. If you are anywhere south of orlando, then I'd say go for it, you may have to water it a little more often than you would in the summer time, but the temps should be fine. If you are north of orlando, I say wait until next April.

Listen to skikid... he's done his research. It depends on the temp, and many other factors, how quick your shit will fruit. My outdoor patch took longer than i thought, but it was worth it. And as the other guy said, you'll need more than BRF cakes to get a patch goin. Use horse shit, its worked well for me.

I live in Orlando and did an outdoor patch, it did great. Cubes grow just about year round in the cow pastures also, I say go for it.

Guess Jacksonville isn't the best for winter patches, huh? Well, this partially answers a question I had in another thread. If I recently started beds that haven't fruited (a couple of the early areas did bear a few fruits last month), will they bear fruit next year? Or did I totally waste my time? If they will bear fruit next year, is that dependant on me keeping them watered throughout the cooler months?

They'll fruit next year. You gotta look at it like this, in nature, cubes grow in parts where the temp does get below freezing in the winter time, if mycelium were to just die off, how would they keep coming back summer after summer? The mycelium goes dormaint in the winter, so your patch in Jax will probably start fruiting next spring, if it doesn't try to sneak in a couple of suprise fruits before the first freeze.

I was talking to the kid in Jax. Tampa is a little south of Jax.
PS Nice fruits.

Haha, I went to the weather channel as well. I agree that the average lows are not in the freezing range, but they do get freezing temps in Jax, at least a couple of times a year. Even if it doesn't freeze, temps in the 40's are low enough to cause the mycelium to go into a dormaint stage, why else could you store fully colonized jars in the fridge for months?

In northern Florida, in the wild, they don't fruit sloooowly, they don't fruit period. I'm telling you this from experience, I pick in the summer, in the winter there's nothing. An outdoor patch doesn't have some magical feature that keep it fruiting while wild shrooms stop.
